Tough position...what would u do?

My buddy and I were all set to tee off on saturday when he came up to me at the range and said "dude, i had my driver regripped and left it in the trunk of my car at home" I said that sucks and went on with my warm up. He then says to me "is it cool if i use your driver??"

I just got this driver and played ONE round with it prior to this, so im still in the honeymoon phase and pretty mad at him for asking. I didnt want to come off like a baby or a jerk so i said yes, even though i wanted to tell him he was stuck with his 3 wood.

i'll tell you what.. every time we hit the tee box i was irate! i started off with a bad drive then of course he pounds it down the middle. i start off with 3 straight 7's on a course i normally do great at.

i feel like a prick for being upset about it, but wish i told him no because it really took me out of my game.. what would any of you do in this situation??

A good friend of mine, who's a good golfer asked me if he could hit a few shots with my irons, we were at the range, I told him no. Everything was/is cool. No hard feelings - he understood.

Technically as your opponent he is not allowed to share your driver (rule 4-4a). Partners can share clubs but must only have 14 between the two of them (4-4b). So next time tell him it is against the rules for him to share a club.

I would have no problem letting someone use my irons or driver and I would expect most (if not all) of my playing partners would do the same. It's not like he was going to jinx your driver.

My irons are brand new, and I like them the way they are. I want to be certain that the blemishes and wear & tear are my own doing. Nothing worse, for either the owner of the clubs - or the borrower - that scratching up a sole, missing one fat or on the toe and scratching the face, or skying a driver and leaving a mark on the paint.

Well obviously you should have told him No because that's what you wanted to do. So in response to your question...if you don't want to do something for someone else then don't...

But yeah I agree with Laconic, it's your own fault you let that take you out of your game. I mean, it's still you against the golf course and somehow you made it you vs. the golf course and your buddy.

I'd tell him tough luck because I don't carry a driver at the moment . If I did however, I'd let him use it. Of course now we wait for all the posts about how it's illegal and how "I always play by the rules and want everybody to know about it", quite frankly I couldn't give a ****, I just wouldn't hand the card in. It's your own fault for getting upset about it, especially considering that you were hesitant to lend it to him in the first place. Stuff like that really shouldn't bother you, after all, golf is just a game and should be fun.

I have two groups of friends for golf.

One group; I would let them use a club. I know these particular people wouldn't harm a club and would also take care of it. Also, I know that if something went bad, they would replace it and I wouldn't have to ask. I used to play with a group and we would sometimes trade bags and play with another persons clubs for the round just for fun. Nothing ever happened to anyone's clubs.

The other group; they don't go near my clubs. They don't have the golfing experience or the respect for the game that would make me feel comfortable letting them use something of mine. I would have no problems telling them they couldn't use my stuff, and I doubt that they would have any ill feelings toward me for not letting them.

If it bothers you that much to know that someone is hitting you stuff better than you, that would be a personal problem. Just letting someone hit your driver shouldn't take you out of your game. The equipment has nothing to do with it, it is all swing. Your buddy was just swinging better that day.

Someone I call my buddy or my friend, I would hand him my entire set, if that's what he needed. Because he's my friend.

agreed who loses concentration cause a friend asks to use thier driver hell someone broke mine i birdied out after that,its no big deal sounds kinda like sergio now.

when he first moved here he didnt have clubs and used every iron in my bag, he didnt even buy a driver until a month ago and up to that point used my driver so often he got used to it and bought the same one.

This is a case of it being a brand new driver. i agree that it is my fault for getting ticked off, but dang, is it that hard to just use a perfectly good 3 wood?

Aside from you letting it bother you, you created the original problem. You had no problem letting him use your old clubs, so he didn't think anything of asking to borrow your new one.

Now, I understand where you are coming from. I just ordered some new Mizuno irons. There is no way I am letting anyone hit them but me! lol

I think it just comes down to you learning how to say no. A lot of people have this problem - Person A asks Person B to do something but Person B doesn't necessarily want to (could be because it's uncomfortable, like your case or because it puts him in a worse off situation) but agrees to it anyway usually because he cares too much about what Person A will think of him. Then Person B will usually end up resenting Person A or will be in a worse of situation.

Just learn how to say no. It won't make you an ******* because in the case where you do want to help someone else you'll say Yes and genuinely mean it. You'll generally come across as more genuine/authentic instead of someone who says yes for all the wrong reasons.

I never had a problem letting anybody use my clubs ever until my buddy's driver broke and he traded off using my driver and our other friends driver the whole round and put sky marks on both of our drivers. He even got pissed and didnt understand when we told him he couldnt use our drivers anymore.

I hope that someday you get to experience losing all your worldly posessions like I did 10 years ago. It makes you realize that it's just stuff.

Let the guy use your driver. Worst case, he busts it beyond repair and you've lost a golf club. So what? It's just a golf club. Life goes on.
