I've demoed Odysseys and love the pillow soft feel and distance control, and I like the accuracy I get from the Taylormade mallets.

I'd like to find something that has a mix of both of those. I would like something a bit on the heavy side, but not a full size mallet. Haven't looked at the Scottys Pings and CGs yet.

Any recommendations?

I have the Ping Redwood Anser and Piper S - since i prefer a heavier putter too. They are actually heavier than the Scottys and if you never hit a Redwood, you really have to try it - for me just the best feel i had so far. The Anser isnt as forgiving as the Piper imo but i just feel i have better distance control/better feedback with it, and i really start thinking if i want to give up on these two aspects for more forgivness.

Somebody told me, that he feels that the putt is coming off too aggressiv off the Anser face for his taste, but i guess thats a personal preference you have to decide on yourself.

Ping makes some great mid mallets. I don't think you can go wrong here. They are pricey though.

I wasn't looking for a new putter but found a new Cleveland Classic #1 for sale and took a chance. I really like the feel and the distance control. You might want to look at the Cleveland if you are on a budget.

I was basically in the same boat as you. I've been using a ping Craz-e mallet which I quite like and will never get rid of but this year I was looking to move into a blade. I decided on the ping redwood black satin. Definitely heavier than my craz-e. After trying out many blades in the store it came down to an odyssey or the redwood (both felt good to me) and I decided to stick with Ping.

I like mallets as well and I have ordered a scotty fastback... it just makes you feel confident and I was on with it on an indoor practice green.

The taylormade inserts do feel great and give the ball a nice roll. I like the itsy bitsy and the fontana.

As a shameless plug, you can find a used scotty cameron red x in the marketplace being sold by yours truly.

Scotty Red X3 is my favorite mallet.....Red X5 is super, too.

The previously listed PING Redwood Piper S is pretty sweet.

I've really been enjoying my YES Olivia these past few months, too. It aligns very easily....feel is good....sound is so/so.....and it came with three sets of weights and a wrench to remove and adjusting them takes less than a minute.

Mallets really have become my favorite style lately.

If you're looking for a good putter that is also pretty cheap, I would look into buying the Maxfli crossbax blade putter. I have been using it for a while and I love it. Even if you don't like a blade style putter I would definitely recommend looking at the other styles of putter maxfli is making, they all have a great feel to them.

I recently purchased a nike unitized tiempo and I loved it. It was only 99.99 at Golf Galaxy. Not sure if they still have new ones but I'm sure ebay does. The feel of this putter is 2nd to none imo.

Bobby Grace's DCT putters (made by ) are a good bet, some people say he's the poor man's Scotty Cameron but I can't recommend his gear highly enough. A friend of mine has a Callie and its improved his putting no-end, it really gets the ball rolling very quickly.

Im in the same boat as the OP, but can't post my own topic (don't know why...) so I'm thread jumping his :)

I also am looking for a new putter, and really want to try and mallet or 2/3 ball putter. I found the Odyssey Tri-Ball SRT for around $70, and was wondering if that was a good value.

I'm trying to spend <$75 if possible

I was in a similar position where i liked the weight and stability you get from a mallet but didn't want a putter that big in my bag so went for a blade which had a nice wide base. Similar to those recommending the #9 i would also suggest you look at the 330 or Rossie- i actually went for the Rossie Blade which is kind of inbetween- all good clubs though!!

    • I am currently playing a Cobra Ltdx LS 9 degree driver and Cobra Ltdx LS FW3. Both with Tensei White stock stiff shafts and original weights of 12g (heel) and 3g (toe). My miss is usually a pull fade or sometimes a slice, swing is out to in. Driver swing speed about 112 mph. Grips are stock regular. Intended change: Driver: Switching to Tensei White x-flex one inch shorter which I suppose would be 44,5? Changing heel weight to 18g. Changing grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Change hosel setting to standard draw. FW3: Changing heel weight to 16g (apparently not available in FW weights, but supposed to be something called "internal weight" a club builder can add which fits between the weight and the screw?). Change grip to Golf Pride Z-grip cord midsize. Changing hosel setting to standard +1. The goal is to 1) get better grip since I tend so lose grip in warm and moist conditions with the current grips and 2) mitigate the misses to start more straight with less side spin. Also considering adding the Cobra Ltdx LS FW5 instead of my old Taylormade R9 and getting 14g heel and 6g toe weights with the same grip as the others and hosel setting standard +1.   All of the above is based on conversations with ChatGPT and, as everyone knows, it can come up with pretty much whatever but I spent a few hours asking about different perspectives etc and this was the recommendation. So, my question is basically, does it make any sense?   Thanks.
