It's an evil necessity that we face every year, spring and fall...
I'm going to a course this weekend, that will have freshly aerated greens.

Does anyone have a good idea how to putt on it? =P

I know of the "2 putt rule" and the unfairness of playing on aerated greens. But between my friends, we count everything till the ball is in the hole! lol. Any tips to help me get some extra skins while the others fumble around with 3 putts?

Sure, chip it in :) But no seriously, ever see the movie Wanted ? You just gotta curve it around the little holes, with your Chi power. Kinda like Caddy Shack. Na na na nananananananaa!

I play the ball up in my stance slightly to try to catch it a bit more on the upswing and to get it lifted and rolling a bit more.

It seems to work. No idea if it actually does...

Go practice the feel of aerated greens at Clearview. They just recently aerated all of them including the practice green. I actually putted well on the aerated greens... Go figure.

played this morning on aerated greens, watching the ball bounce around... actually had a ball hit a hole and jump into the cup

Not much you can do except hope it doesn't start bouncing around. Played on some nasty ones today, but it started raining around the 11th and that helped to calm them down a bit :V

I think the worst thing you can do is think about it too much. Whatever you do, don't doubt yourself or your putting stroke. Iacas' idea may work, but don't focus too hard on changing anything. Just play exactly how you normally would.

That's my advice at least.

We have recently had absolutely awful greens due to Fusarium disease so I've had to put over sand, holes, scarifying marks, patches of mud and grass, seed, you name it I've probably putter over it.

In my bag:
Driver: G10 10.5 TFC 129 Shaft
3 wood: R7 Steel
Hybrid: 585H 21 Degree
Irons 3-PW: 735.CMWedges: Vokey 52.08, 56.14Putter: White Hot XG #5

Putt with more pace. You have to trust your stroke and ram the short ones in the back, this will insure that the holes effect the role less. Unfortunetly if you miss it often means another tester over the bumps and holes again!
Good luck!

One thing I noticed is the putt will sometimes track the aeration pattern. If putt is in same general direction as the rows of aeration holes but you have to cross a few rows the effect on the putt is semi-predictable and you can plan for some break based on that. Maybe?
Driver: G15 12*    /     FW: Exotics CB1 4-wood,   a4OS 5-wood
Hybrids Hi-bore 3,4-hybrids  /   Irons: G10 5-UW TFC 129i
Wedge Vokey SM 56*   /   Putter: Karsten Anser

On an aerated green, once the ball leaves the putterface, it's in God's hands.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!

    • Miss at the moment is a big heel strike off the driver. Irons appear to be fine at the moment, miss with those is a big push. My grip deffo needs to continue to be worked on. Something Else I also noticed by watching my swing over and over and watching Pro's setup I have noticed that I place my left foot fine, but then when I place my right foot out into position I move my whole body doing so, also moving my centre line and left shoulder back, creating a kind of Eiffel tower base looking effect with my legs, both shoulders are equal distance from the instep of my feet. when I look at most pro setups, their lead shoulder is inline with their lead foot instep, and their trial shoulder has a much bigger gap between the instep of the trail foot. This leads them to look more straight up and down on their lead side and more right knee kicked in on their trail side. if that makes sense AT ALL. I tried this at the range last night, setting up my left foot and then moving my right foot without the body, and the strike was way way better and consistent, turn felt better etc, didnt video it, but something I will likely stick with
    • Day 42 - A lot of pushed shots yesterday, so today was work on fixing that. Partly grip, partly opening my hips more.
    • Day 297: back to mirror work tonight. Working on slow movement for feels from the wrist stuff.
    • Day 22: 5/13/25 Putting through gates and weight shift drills with a wedge.
    • I would be happy to hang out with you guys but as of now @DaveP043 and I are planning to stay in Cranberry Township. There’s a bit of travel between the two places, but maybe we can work something out.
