Looking at the pairings for the Players today.. Leader at -11 and then 5 players following at -6. How is it decided which player at -6 goes off with the leader? Always been curious about that

First in at -6 goes out last (because that person shot the best score for the day*).

* Doesn't always happen, say for example two players both start the day -4 and both finish -6 or whatever, but in Tiger's case, that pans out as he was the only guy at -6 to shoot 70. So he's out last of the -6s.

I'm inferring from yesterday that the low score from the previous round is the tie breaker with respect to pairings; Tiger was low out of the bunch tied for 2nd. Beyond that, I haven't studied it but now you've got my interest.

It's very simple, and there are two rules:

1) All players tee off from highest score to lowest score.
2) Within ties, the first player to post that score is the last player out the next day.

Thus, again, Tiger Woods was the first to post -6 (because he started the day at -4 and nobody that teed off before him met or bettered his -6 total), so he'll be the last of the -6s to tee off. Since there's only one guy ahead of him, he's in the last group.

The rule prior to the third round literally is "first in, last out": if a player shoots a 75 Friday morning and finishes two rounds tied with a player who shoots 68 in the afternoon, the player who shot 75 in the morning gets the preferrable pairing for the third round.

We are lucky Tiger is paired with Alex. This will make for some great TV. I wonder if Alex will fold like a cheap accordian? I hope not.

I'm down to a 10 handicap. At this rate, I'll get to scratch at 90 years old!
