indeed sounds great... but then again - if something sounds too good to be true - most of the time it is I used to read tons of horror stories about "demo" or "try for free" companies, who ended up charging the full (overblown) cost to your credit card (which has to be on file as collateral) and some people were fighting for months to get their money back.
good luck if you try them, make sure to let us know how it went

Yeah. I can definitely see that there's room for mischief. If they weren't associated with golfgalaxy.com, I wouldn't even consider using them.

you won't get that for $19.99 and you don't get to play a round or two with your future set. Once you find the set you like - by all means - HAS TO BE FITTED

I can see a advantage of doing it - just be careful.

Of course. I don't think demoing clubs is a substitute for a fitting. Apples and oranges as far as I'm concerned.

... I think it's a great idea .... most players read a bunch of reports from Golf Digest and other good publications and "think" they're talking about them ...

Then they walk into their favorite golf store and hit 2 or 3 balls (maybe) and spend $250/$400+ and go home with the wrong club .. it happens everyday ... much like taking a potential new car around the block instead of taking it out on the lumps, bumps and spending a few miles down the freeway.

A full fitting is fine, but if they don't work for the player ....

Seems like $20/$30 bucks is cheap insurance instead of spending $200++ and having one bad game after another .......

Whats in the bag.?

Has anyone tried them yet? I found this earlier today and am concidering a new driver and $20 to try one is great. Plus it would count towards purchase at the GGalaxy.

I tried golfclubdemo around a month ago. All in all, my experience was positive. Here's what the process was like:
I picked out an ft-3 and a set of x-tours that I was considering purchasing (after having hit them at a local shop). Each set of clubs or driver has a specific window to demo (5 business day I believe), so you know when you'll receive them and when you need to ship them back. The have a pretty good selection of shaft options for drivers and the standard choices (e.g. dgs300) for irons, which is nice.

I received the clubs via 2-day FedEx on the date given when I chose them. The clubs were basically new. Inside the boxes you get the club(s), a headcover (in the case of the driver), a coupon for Golf Galaxy for the specific type of club in the box and a return shipping label.

After demoing them for a week (received monday, shipped the following monday), I packed them up in the same boxes they came in, popped on the return label and dropped them off at the local mailbox shop. Painless.

It's great to have the clubs for an entire week, and if you're a Golf Galaxy shopper, the cost of the demo can be offset, but it was pretty pricey (~$55).

All in all, it's a nice way to demo clubs, but due to the cost, it's probably best used when you're at an advanced stage in the purchasing process.

I just ordered a Callaway FT-3 Fusion Tour Nuetral, 9.5 degrees with a stiff Aldila NVS-65 to try out from them. I've tried the 10 degree normal Ft-3 with the Callaway/Aldila NVS-55 in a stiff and didn't like it, and I hit a 10.5 degree Tour with the NVS-65 on a launch monitor and was hitting the ball way too high, so hopefully this setup will work out nicely.

I think its worth 25 bucks to try out a club on the course and range, and I might as well do it now so if I like it I can buy one before the free fairway wood deal expires.

I'll report back on how the site works after I've played the club and returned it.

You do realize Rafi is

selling that same club (well, not the NVS, but the NV) for $280, right?

Yeah, but with 8.5 degrees of loft. My SS is only 102-105mph, so I don't think I could generate an ideal launch angle with that loft and a stiff shaft with a high kick point.

    • So excited you made it out! I live in Portland and go most springs. If you liked Sheep's Ranch you ain't seen nothing yet. It's incredibly picturesque and with a 2 club wind it's not a cake walk. But as far as the quality of the course in terms of challenge and interest, in my opinion it's easily the worst on the property! Also, Old Mac started as my least favorite (this was before Sheep's Ranch opened). But I listened to the fried egg podcast about it and read through Doak's descriptions and it totally changed my perspective. Now it's fighting for top spot. So excited for you!
