I had the TiVo going on two channels yesterday: U.S. Open and USA versus Italy. What the hell were those refs smoking? I wonder if the U.S. would have pulled out an upset if they had even had ten men. They nearly did it with nine (then again, Italy had an OG too, derrrr).

Yes I know. They were terrible. I dont think that the two red cards that were givin were not right. The first one for the US was a hard tackle but I dont think it was worth a red card. I would not have givin a red card. The only thing that I would have done is givin the yellow and talked to the player. The ref were card crazy.

i was working in the pro shop yesterday, trying to find the right balance between the US Open and soccer...i wish i had tivo...but i dont think the refs were as bad as people make them out to be. The Italian dudes red card was the right call...and though i dont think it was intentional, Mastroeni should have at least gotten a yellow card on that tackle, based on how the games have been called. I didnt see Eddie Popes, i saw replays but none were that good, but it did look like he came from behind and such. And i about cried when Beasley's goal was called back but McBride was offsides and did kinda interfere, though it still wouldve gone in if he hadnt been there. but i dont like the cummulative yellow card rule during pool play, especially with how many yellow cards they are giving out. The post game analysis i thought was dissappointing to me, them saying the ref should be banned and what not...i've had worse refs in some of my games, the US should just focus on beating Ghana now.....

and on a side note we lucked out on our one goal so its not like we deserved to win or tie anyways.

not trying to be mean or anything but if this game was about who deserves to win or not then it would be a totally different game. today in the Brazil vs. Austrailia match, brazils keeper dida dropped a ball and it fell to a australian player and with no keeper and no defender around to help, the australian player shot from about 6 yards away with nothing in front of him but the face of the goal. He missed. Now if the game was about fairness then the player would have scored. Dida did not deserve to come away without any harm. I think that is what makes the game great.

Do you know how much difference that yellow card would have made though? Mastroeni would have stayed in the game, and the United States would have kept a man advantage for a little while longer until Pope went out with his second yellow card of pool play. The yellow card for Mastroeni would have been valid, I agree with that. But it was no more than a yellow card.

As for the game, I think it was a disappointing tie to a certain extent. The United States really put the heat on the Italians all game. It just didn't seem like we could break through with a huge play. And we still haven't scored a goal on our own in the World Cup. I'm hoping for an outright win against Ghana, but it won't be an easy task by any means. They are tough. We will have to get things in sync and score some damn goals. The Australia/Brazil game was very good by the way. That was another game that seemed like the wrong team won. The Aussies really pushed the pace most of the game and missed some golden opportunities to get points on the board. They are much better than their ranking indicates. But on the other hand, Brazil is still loaded! They showed why they are #1. I'm going to TiVo Germany vs. Ecuador and England vs. Sweden today and watch them later. I'm looking forward to England vs. Sweden.

I don't think Engeland-Sweden will be a nice match, if you see how they both played in the previous matches. I think Engeland is the biggest dissapointment of the tournament so far, but im still hoping they will win big, because i'm rooting for Trinidad&Tobago;!!! GO LEO!!!

I think England has played pretty solid so far. They haven't been anything special, but they have taken care of business. And they got Wayne Rooney involved a little in their last game. If he gets healthy, look out!

I wouldn't mind seeing Germany finish second in their pool and England finish first in their pool. Then we will get a match between them in the sweet 16 knockout round. That will be intense!

Here we go again, the great white hype "Wayne Rooney" the faith of a nation on the shoulders of a teenager with an attitude,
Rooney is a good player but he is not the big player engeland hopes for.
He is no Riquelme, Messi, Ronaldinho...(Robben, van Nistelrooy )

Yeah, but this is coming from a guy who is obviously not England's #1 fan....which is fine. That's what makes the World Cup that much more intense.

van Nistelrooy is good though, I'll say that for sure.

Freddy Adu definitely isn't ready for the World Cup yet. He will be groomed and ready for the 2010 World Cup.

He didn't play for Ghana because he looks at himself as an American now. So I guess he didn't feel right about the situation.

freddy adu is mediocre, if he really was so good, he'd play for a european team.

Exactly tats what i wud have thot and plus pele played in the world cup when he was 17 and became the worlds greatest player, the americans need all the help they can get why don't they just stick him in the squad at least.

I think he might go play in Europe actually...a guy i went to high school with, his brother is ranked top 10 in the world for under 17 and i think him and and freddie are going to Europe to play now

freddy adu is cocky. ghana offered him a spot, but he felt like he was too good for them. he begged for a spot on the US team...but guess what...DENIED. Landon Donovan is def. a crapload better.

Here are my final predictions:
BRAZIL VS. ARGENTINA in the finals

Brazil wins it 3-1

Even though I want Argentina to win...
Brazil wins too much :(

    • No, I'm not talking about "six footers uphill, slightly right to left." I'm going to indulge myself and talk about my favorite putts that I've ever hit. In no particular order… #9 at Whispering Woods The hole was cut middle left, and I was back right with about 40 feet to the hole, and six to eight feet of break. @DrizZzY (he'll be a semi-common theme here) was about 25' from the hole and he said "Do you need me to mark that" as his ball was really close to my line. I saw the line really, really clearly and, like the cocky jerk I am, said something like "no, leave it. I think I have to just miss your ball to make this." I saw my ball as having to pass within a few millimeters of his ball… and going in the middle. Well, I hit the putt, and as it passed his ball missing it by maybe 1.5cm… I said "ahhhhh, pulled it a little…" and… the ball fell in the left-center of the hole. I smirked at Sculley and he just said "you're such an ass." 🤣 I know I said in no particular order, and that might be true for the rest… but this one is clearly tops on my list. I saw the line so clearly, it was a touchy, delicate putt… and I knew I'd pulled it just that little bit, and my speed was perfect. His ball was fifteen feet from mine, and the putt broke 8'! Might be the greatest putt, given the call I made, I'll ever hit. #13 at Lawsonia Links I cared about a few rounds in Wisconsin on our 2021 trip (thanks again @cipher), and the 13th had gotten me a bit. I was in a bunker, and someone not NOT named @DeadMan had told me I could just chip a 7I out and still be fine… well, the 7I left me 250 in, so my 3W finished just left of the green… and about 10' below the green. I hit a decent pitch to 25' or so… this putt broke only about 2-3', but burying that one was satisfying as it kept my "no sixes in Wisconsin" streak alive. It was after this putt that someone said something like "You remember how you said you felt about Tiger at the 1997 Masters? That's how we feel right about now." It was one of the nicest things anyone has ever said to me. 😄 #14 at Whispering Woods Two putts are tied here. On one, Sculley and I hit tee shots to a back hole near the front of the green. I was a foot off the front, he was a few feet on. As we were getting back into the cart, I said "putting contest from here." He replied "Well, I lost." I made the 75-footer. The other time, the pin was front-left. I was mostly middle right, barely on the green, putting across it from about 65 feet. The putt broke a good ten feet. Sculley was short left of the hole, and for the last 20 feet of the putt, I looked at @DrizZzY and the face he made — disgust, annoyance, resignation — as the putt tracked directly toward and eventually into the hole was one of the funniest and most satisfying expressions I've ever seen on the golf course. I watched him, not my ball, for the last 15-20 feet of its roll. Sorry Sculley! #9 at Tan Tara Golf Course It was my 77th stroke in my second round of the PAT. It was a ten-footer, broke a few inches, and was destined for the bottom of the cup the instant I hit it, all to pass the PAT on the number in my first attempt. (Tan Tara is now Pendleton Creek.) #17 and 18 at The Old Course, St. Andrews On the 18th, I hit it to about four feet from about 40 yards out, up and over the Valley of Sin, from the fairway. I didn't even really consider chipping or pitching it, because who does that? Not there, not me. On #17, I had about a 15 or 18 footer, after playing a 6I from 180 that flew (on purpose) only about 90 yards, and took about 15 steps to run over humps and hollows before coming to a stop on the right portion of the hole. My caddie said "I see only one or two birdies a year on the Road Hole, so, well done." Lifetime scoring average on 17 at the Old: 3. I'll take that. Far Hole (#?), Putting Course at Streamsong Black @kpaulhus and I were screwing around. Calling out holes, and tee locations. I walked over to the fringe of the nearby green on the Black course… We putted from the fringe in case we scuffed the ground a bit. Well, I chose a putt from the fringe to the far side of the 18-hole putting course. In Google Earth, I measured the putt just now at nearly 400 feet. As in… 130 yards. I hit the stick. My ball stopped less than two feet from the hole. The other diners let out a loud shout when I smacked it, and looked way over at me and yelled out "it hit the stick!" Kyle lost that hole. And most of the other ones. 😉  Some stats: Count: 8 Shortest: 10 feet. Longest: 130 yards. Average length: ~93 feet. But, y'know… Those are my favorite putts. What are yours?
    • I have one still sitting in a box my son gave me for Christmas.  For a while, I used an app on my watch, but it drained the phone battery . We have Markers at 180 ,135 and 90M , and generally I am close enough to one of them to get a fairly rough indication of how far.  Also, for a while now ,I walk into town and back at weekends, approximately 5 mile round-trip . I’ll start a walk on my watch, and on the way home when the watch ticks over to .10/.90 etc I’ll pick a street light ,lamp post , sign , and guess how far, normally anything up to about 100 m, I have now got very good at estimating distances, especially up to 50 or 60M.
