I just found out today i have a gap of 11* in my bag.
my callaway big bertha pw is 45*, and my next lofted club is a 56* mizuno tp19 sw from the tp19 set my dad got from a friend a few years back.
Is it worth patching up the gap?

Absolutely worth "patching" IMHO. You've got room for one more club anyways......

That is a huge gap between clubs, but what about your distances? Are you finding an area you that choking down on the PW or strong arming the SW a lot?

I filled my gap or 47 to 56 with a 51 and it has worked out GREAT!

Do you think it's a problem?

That's all that really matters.

Damien is right, it's all about distances. If you have a big yardage gap and you find yourself without the club you need to hit the shot, then pick up a "gap" wedge (51*, 52*, 54*, etc.). Don't buy another club if you don't need it though.

How exactly do you figure out the degree if your clubs if you didn't buy them new? I bought my Ping ISI's or IST's? used. After my pitching wedge I have a really old sandwedge that says System - 55 on the backside, I assume that's 55° but don't have the slightest clue what the PW is.

I have an 8 degree gap between my P and 52. No biggie. Next year I may change up.

If your PW came with your set of irons, you can probably find the standard specs online. No guarentee that your specific clubs haven't been altered, but it's a good starting point. In general, I would say most PW range from 45-48.

The SW is probably implying a 55* loft, but I've never heard to that particular one so can't say for sure.

Thanks, I'm actually going to make a whole new thread regarding my current hand-me-down-for-money clubs.

I have that same problem. I checked the Callaway website and noticed the PW is 45* and my lowest wedge is 56* so I am going to get a 50* or 52* Vokey soon.

No, what i am finding is that I fly it over with a pitching wedge and short with the sand wedge! Sounds like i may have to get a 50° wedge; though just dont like the idea of 4 wedges... i always wanted to have just 3 wedges to save money and weight - just without the big gap

Deffo!

Found out my PW is 47 and SW is 55 - even an 8 degree gap is huge (works our about 30 yards). Will have a 52 bent to 51 next week though - 3 iron has become unused..

Yeah, if that is the case a GW is the way to go. Some people are able to alter grip/swing enogh to "close the gap" but others can't (like me).

It's only a problem if you also have a big gap in your distances between the 45 and the 56. If you've learned to cover that gap already then it's not a problem.
