Does anyone out there, other than me, find Nike Drivers to be garbage? Personally, I think they are the worst pieces of equipment available, and I would never buy one again.

No, I have to disagree. I own a Nike SQ5900, and while its not in my bag right now, its a good club. I have trouble hitting it completely straight. But thats a problem with me, not the driver. And the good shots are sooooo good and long.

In the Ogio Kingpin bag:

Titleist 913 D2 9.5* w/ UST Mamiya ATTAS 3 80 w/ Harrison Shotmaker & Billy Bobs afternarket Hosel Adaptor (get this if you don't have it for your 913)
Wilson Staff Ci-11 4-GW (4I is out of the bag for a hybrid, PW and up were replaced by Edel Wedges)
TaylorMade RBZ 5 & 3 Fairway Woods

Cobra Baffler T-Rail 3 & 4 Hybrids

Edel Forged 48, 52, 56, 60, and 64* wedges (different wedges for different courses)

Seemore Si-4 Black Nickel Putter

I agree I'm not a fan of Nike drivers but Tiger Woods uses one so I guess that means we all should use one.

I'll bet you a dollar to a donut that Tiger wouldn't use one without the endorsement deal.

I love the new Dymo, but not the square version. That club is awesome.

Can you elaborate on your problem with them?

Drivers and putters are a lot alike -- one man's trash is another man's treasure.

There are a lot of drivers that make me throw up a little in my mouth when I even look at them, but then the guy who's playing it knocks the heck out of the ball with it and thinks it's the most beautiful driver ever made.

Same with putters.

I wouldn't bag any Nike driver I've seen or swung so far but I've played with plenty of people that have them and hit them well. Go figure.

Tiger has 200 million Dollars at least. If he could play better equiptment and sacrifice 5-10 million a year tops do you think he would? NOW THAT SAID WHAT TIGER USES IS PROBABLY NOT WHAT WE COULD GET OFF THE SHELF.

As of last year Tiger has made a total of $886 million from his winnings, and his sponsorships. He made about $120 million just last year.

Tiger Woods would not use one if he wasn't getting paid, simple as that. Mickelson was right when he said they are inferior. It is impressive however, that Nike keeps getting people to buy them, but again, that's why they have Tiger. It's all marketing.

My problem with them is simply that - they are inferior. They don't have to build good products because as long as people see Tiger playing them, they will buy them by the truck loads, even if they can hit something 20 times better. They convince themselves that a Nike is the best club for them, because they want what they think Tiger has.

Tiger is allowed to use ANY club he wants to. Yes, he has a contract with Nike, but its not like a lot of other players' contracts that say he has to use a certain # of Nike clubs. he can use ANY brand he wants to. He chooses to use Nike (except for the putter of course).

You seem to have several 'inferior' clubs in your bag and obviously bought in to the 'marketing' hype. Do you think Phil is playing Callaways for free?

Uhm, Tiger Woods isn't under contract to play Nike equipment. Just their apparel.

A little knowledge goes a long way.

I'll let you know in about a month - I just bought a Dymo Square 11.5 to replace my r7 425. I've owned three drivers in eight years - Nike 400 (pre Ignite, Sumo), r7 425, r7 SuperQuad (sold in 2 months). It will be an opinion of a 20-handicapper, but I'll post my feedback after getting some rounds in

Seems a little apples-versus-oranges anyway: The driver Tiger uses is so custom that it doesn't resemble any Nike driver you can buy in a pro shop.

Obviously I like Nike equipment. I'm sure my initial inclination to try out and purchase Nike gear was influenced by their phenomenal marketing, but my ongoing reliance upon it is based on performance. I can't say that Nike gear is the best out there, but what I have works well for me. The hybrids are flat out the best I've ever hit. The driver and 3w are as good as other newer equipment I've gamed and a touch more forgiving (the "squared" claim to fame). To me today's top tier drivers are all pretty much the same performance wise. That isn't to say that some don't stand out because they do, but statistically speaking the differences are minor. That means determining factors should be forgiveness or workability rather than assuming one driver outclasses others. That's just my opinion, but it's based on my experiences. I like my Nike driver, but it really isn't any better then the r7 I had prior to it. But what made the case for me was the fact that on heel or toe hits I could still count on getting a servicable shot (better than what I saw with the r7). But the sad fact is if you cut the ball or snap it shut you still get the same old slice or hook.

    • The term I hear most often is "double teeing" which means the course/club has starting times from both the #1 and #10 tee.  I have encountered this many times and we know if we are the first group off #10, we may well get to #1 and have to wait because there are groups still with tee times yet to tee of #1.  In most instances, where the course/club has a starter, he normally explains this situation.  In this case, the pro advised what you would could/would encounter making the turn to #1.  And, that is exactly what happened.  Probably would have been wise to talk to the pro after playing back 9 and ask when you could go off #1 since apparently that club does not double tee.   Regardless, the outburst towards the other group was uncalled for.  And, I don't blame the member for being upset.  As a member of a private club, you are responsible for the actions of your guest.  I have played many times as a guest in the UK and I am pretty damn sure my host was responsible for my actions while at the club.  I know at the clubs I have belonged to here in the US, that is the way it is.  As a matter of fact, the member may find himself being brought before management and facing possible suspension.  So, I don't blame him for being upset.  However, as the host, he really should have stepped up and put a stop to the OP's actions.  OP makes this statement "I now understand that standards are different on the "private course." But I'll take those lessons to the muni, too."  No, the standards are not different.  You, sir, seem to be just a bit hard headed and belligerent, even if you are college professor...which possibly explains a lot.   JMHO
    • Day 32: worked for about 10 minutes on my drill. Filmed it as well for a check in. I think it’s slightly better but still seeing some issues.
    • Day 44 (26 Dec 25)  -  played in the Friday men’s shootout with a twist - used the Toney Penna persimmons and MacGregor blades - had a blast playing these clubs.  They really help in zoning in on making solid ball contact.  Scoring was solid - had several looks at birdie and had a few par saves.  Overall a day of focused course management.
    • Day 2: 2025.12.27 Eighteen holes at Kauri Cliffs. Focusing on trying to keep flex in right leg during backswing.
