Length of Club Shaft?

Hey y'all,
I know that this is a complete newbie question, but how long should the shaft for clubs be for a guy that is about 5'10''? I don't know how much it really matters, as long as it is close I know, but I would just like to get some clubs with the correct length.

HookEmHorns - Great Name! If you send me your wrist-to-floor measurement, I'll give you the recommended length. It's not a perfect science, but it will give you a good idea as to where to start.

About the measurment...
Should I measure standing straight up with my hands to my side or in my stance like I would with a club in my hand?

its not exactly how tall you are, its how long your arms are... i know a guy that is 5 feet 6 inches and swings +1/2

There is a chart on the ping website that they use. I found that chart to be the most helpful.

Just keep in mind that each OEMs "standard" is not the same. So be sure and convert the measurements to match up to the OEM that YOU are interested in.

No harm in researching this of course, but there is no substitute for being fit by a pro. It doesn't cost that much. Everyone should have their clubs fit to them by a pro. Just look to a local golf shop or country club. You should not have trouble finding someone near you.

Clearly when you get a "fitted" set of clubs you will end up with some wedges that are in the 35" to 36" range. AND you will end up with some woods in the 42" to 46" range.

So YOU can hit 35-36" clubs without a problem and you can hit clubs that are close to a foot longer. This is not a problem of your personal geometry (within reason, of course).

What IS important is

- the relationship between you, your club's length and the lie of your clubs (particularly your short irons)

- how long a club can you control (most important with the longer clubs like driver)

- achieving the distance gaps that you need. I recently added 1" to my 3i hybrid. This had nothing to do with geometry - I needed a bit more distance from that club

Why not just go to your local pro and get fitted? Sorry to sound so simplistic but it doesn't cost anything and they do a pretty good job of it.

      Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.

      I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.

      I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
