Well I took the plunge. I demo'd it over and over again against the R9 and over and over, the R9 460 I hit more solid. I was also considering the 09 burner but the 460 felt much much better and was far more consistent. As always, it's probably the indian and not the arrow.

Nevertheless, I noticed that I tend to fade more with the 460 and the question I have is, if I put it on NU setting (Neutral Upper) which according to the directions will create more loft and draw bias, considering my fading swing, will it somewhat shift my swing a bit to go straighter?

Obviously, I rather correct my swing but I'm curious whether changing these settings will actually do what it's supposed to do. I haven't tried it out on course yet so I'm just inquiring about it for those who have changed the settings with more consistent swing.

Usually, playing the ball a bit more foward and teed up a tad higher will encourage more of a draw. But... if you play all your other shots as you like them (as far as ball flight) except your driver then yea - use that sucker's built-in adjustability... that's what it's for.

I hit a fade generally - the guys who custom fit me figured I should have it set to L. That's what I hit best at the fitting. So far results are decent at the range but only one game on the course under my belt - hitting it left a good bit. But going to stick with the L settup for the time being.

Interestingly, the less L you get (opening the clubface) actually decreases loft. So might be a good settup when playing the wind! Will try that too eventually but I like the L.

I got the 460 as well, TP X Stiff Shaft. It hits much better than the 420. Distance feels much longer and consistent, feels straighter and the sound is great. I love it!!!

QUICK UPDATE:

I took it on the range with the NU setting (neutral upper) meaning draw bias a bit. It works. Of course, you can still hit a fade if you want but if your swing is right on, which mine is a fade, it went straight and long.

Then you can wait for again when the R11 comes out so the R10 is cheaper.

Funny Taylor Made keeps doing this, but they are still the #1 Driver on Tour (of course by contract the tour players have to play the new ones or at least use the headcovers and wear the caps) and we keep buying them. LOL

I heard they already have the trademark registered on the "R11" I can't wait for it! LOL. In 5 years...maybe they'll put it with NOS similar to the Air Force One club. That thing may blow up in the face

Thats would probably be the sweetest thing ever! except for the fact that you would only get like one swing and then it'd blow up and you'd have to buy a new one... but it would be one awesome swing!

congrats on the R9. and remeber, you still have to hit the ball. the R9 isnt a magic, cure-all club. you're still the one swinging it.

Well the jury is in on my R9 and I'm afraid it is getting the death penalty. I really wanted this to work but alas, it was not to be. I love the way it looks, love the way it sounds and love the way it feels but unfortunately the lost yardage is just too much to put up with. To make matters worse, because I'm not typically getting anywhere close to my normal yardage with this club I've tried to compensate with swing mechanic changes and overswinging and grip changes that all resulted in some really bad mechanics that seeped over into my other clubs. I'm just coming out of it now after a full month of truly miserable golf.

For now my Hibore XLS goes back in the bag. Thinking of trying the Adams Speedline next.

    • So far, it's looking pretty even.  The first weekend (the one in May) is probably out, but the others all seem to work in general.  I'll give it until the end of a week for votes and then pick one.
    • Day 181 - 2025-03-30 Got a little work in while the kids were playing their final round(s). Then drove for awhile. I-95 sucks.
    • Day 8: 3/30/25 After some poor putting yesterday I worked on some distance control drills today along with putting through 50 mm gates.
    • So I am aware that "the committee is allowed to set its own standards of player conduct in a code of conduct adopted as a local rule" (rule 1.2b) I also understand that there are some aspects that are allowed to be entered, and some that are not allowed.  My question specifically is: In which form does this code of conduct need to be available? Is it enough for someone to say "that's part of our code of conduct", or is it a requirement, that the code of conduct is in written form? Also, is there a need that the local rule points to the code of conduct in any way?   For better understanding: I'm playing competition and the next course that we play has a "no smoking policy". I don't have a problem with it, as I don't smoke anyway, but one of my team-mates does, and someone told him "You'll get disqualified if you smoke on the course".   Now I have looked at their local rules and there is no reference to a "code of conduct". I'm not sure if they even have an official "code of conduct" that states that smoking is not allowed.   I fully agree that he SHOULD respect this request from the club, but I am wondering if the club would really be allowed to DQ this player for this, if it's not properly documented in their local rules/code of conduct?  This is an official national amateur tournament, so not just something organized by a club for its members.
    • A few months back I purchased the following swing aid on Amazon ($130). It is solidly made of steel and heavy and stable in use. I use it both at the range and at home. Swing Plate Dual PRO by Jamie Brittain - Swing Analyzer Aid - Fits Standard 8mm Alignment Rod Sticks - Teaching Swing Plane Perfector - Indoor/Outdoor Golfing Practice. This winter I set a goal for myself to improve my backswing/downswing to be more consistent and on plane. I had a two way miss with my approach shots this past golf season. I have a hitting set-up in my garage, but I needed something to provide feedback while swinging the club. I came across the Swing Plate while browsing YouTube.   I set it up with the correct angles for my 8 iron. I started out with just the back rod in place, which prevents me from getting too far inside on the backswing. Started out slow and as I got comfortable increased my swing speed. Now I also came across a YouTube video on building a better backswing and getting more width in the backswing and added that to my practice. That video is here:    This video is a bit wordy since you are basically a fly on the wall as Ian gets a lesson. It took a few replays to be able to get the substance of the instruction. It was well worth the effort. Over the last two weeks I have been able to get out on the course and gauge how successful my practice has been. Overall, my consistency with approach shots has improved greatly. Incorporating the added width in my swing has also added a few yards to all my clubs.  What has your off-season training been like?
