well today me and my dad went to play and we let a guy play with us who i think is a qualified canidate for the worst golfer ever, charles barkleys old swing berore hank was twice as good as this guys swing,he was a hack.everyball he hit we had to help him find even if it went 20yds,he played so bad he made me lose concentratrion on my game lookin for his balls, its the only time i wanted to be sittin at home then on the golf course.

We all started that way. Well not all because some of us wouldn't dare stepping out on the course until after years of driving range.

Wow. Thats just horrible haha. Well, some people just aren't meant to hit a golf ball. I say that if you can hit it more than 50 yards on your first time out on the course, you can learn to play golf. Any less than that, and its really decided for you. That might be a little profiling I'm sorry but it's kind of a fair assessment.

We all started that way.

ive seen many first time golfers, this guy was no joke 5 times worse,my guess is his handicap would be at least 55 no joke prolly more like 80 all b.s aside

It can be tough when you get paired with someone like that but hey, at least he's out there trying rather then sitting on the couch at home. As long as he's having fun out there then more power to him IMO. We all started somewhere. Then again, when his came starts to infringe on yours because you have to help him find his ball that does suck.

You got me

I think at some point we've all been embarrassed to show off our game in public. While he was hacking his ball all over the shop did you give the poor guy any tips? And did he at least have one decent hit that'll keep him coming back for more? I feel his pain.

You got me

i wont give unsolicitated advice and his best shot was about a 75 yd drive with only 25 yds of left to right in it

ouch. i've had bad days before, but nothing as bad as that sounds. How was his on course demeanor? Was he beating himself up? Was he even trying to play? Was he really looking for his ball or just leaning on you all to do so?

well, you got to start somewhere, i guess. 80 handicap is pretty rough though. I might be a little off or selfish for saying this, but the 'true' hack golfers (and I'm talking about the guys/gals that know they are) should probably hit the course late in the afternoon on the local munie. When they have a 11:00 tee time and they're slowing down the pace of play for the entire course, it's a little selfish of them in my opinion.

I doubt you played the worst guy. I played a guy who would have shot at least 250 if he had followed the rules.

Odd thing is he holed out at the end of every hole. He'd putt to two inches and as I'd be going to put the flag in the hole he'd putt out and reach in. I nearly stabbed his hand two or three times.

There was a gir who turned in a 157 for a HS meet last year. For 9 holes.

On a related note, I called my buddy to meet me at the range after work. The GF was there and just haaaad to come (she doesn't let us do anything, she has to come along and make things un-fun. We have to sneak off to golf and bowling a lot). Anyways, she wanted him to teach her to golf and it was 4 times worse than Sir Charles. She had a good looking pivot/finish. Except that was her backswing and the downswing was about 4" deep in the rain soaked earth. I've never seen anyone move their entire body like that while swinging a club. And the kicker is shes not even a nice thing to look at...
She eventually went and sat in the car for 2 hours.

I always see the same guy at the range with an axe chopping like swing. It is as though he is taking a vertical swipe at a log. He only uses his driver and every shot is 25 yards out and 75 yards right.

I feel bad but I'm not about to just go give him advice..

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
    • I found it entertaining, but the announcing was lousy.  How did the measuring on the final shot start with Rory being closer and being told he won, and then with no explanation it turns out Scottie won?  Weird.
    • Day 128 12-18 Worked on rotation and getting to lead side. Still working on the flow feeling while doing that. Recorded swings.
    • IMO-the only thing entertaining was the relay race. Everything else was excruciatingly boring...or just  stupid, like the 14-club thing. Watching guys blade wedges into the water over and over is not at all interesting.
