I had a hole in one in 2001 and it cost me $140, even had a guy that was leaving ask the bartender to take the price of a drink off his bar tab. Since that time I have been in the clubhouse when several have come in with an ace, I offer my congratulations and buy my own damn drink.

My only ace came when I was 15 years old. It was during California State Am qualifying at a country club that's clubhouse was closed on a Monday.

My dad was caddying for me so it ended up costing me about a buck at the nearest coke machine.

If it were to happen now, I'd definitely by a round for my group and check out how many folks were in the clubhouse before I bought anybody anything in there.

If it were packed, I'd have to pass. I got 2 year old twins at home and a golf addiction to feed. If you can't afford it, you can't afford it.

I don't see the problem here. Ace or not, just because some people use those traditions, expecting strangers to buy you beer is expecting a bit much.

Absolutely. The only tradition I have ever heard of is that you buy the witness(one of them) a pair of golf shoes. Don't know if this is true but I witnessed one and didn't get shit! The guy is my regular golf buddy and a good friend. He had just started out and this was maybe is 3rd round ever. I ended up getting him a Seemore putter like mine and having it engraved with the stats for his ace.
