After golfing 1-2 times a month for a few years now and shooting around 100 I decided it was time to get some lessons. I figured I would get a few tweaks for my swing and some minor setup changes and I would be good to go.

So I went to the local PGA pro and had my first of 6 1 hour lessons last night and WOW... I had no idea how bad off I was. I took a few swings and he commented we will need to rebuild from the ground up. For most of the hour we worked on my grip and stance. I never realized that my grip was so bad, I thought it 'looked like' what they pros were doing, boy was I wrong. At the end of the lesson I took some 1/2 swings (waist high) with my 7 iron and my new setup and I could not believe the difference. Not only were they all going straight, but my 1/2 swing was going almost as far as my old 7 iron full swing. I have some practice time to work on things before my next lesson but I cant wait to see what he has to say next.

For anyone who has not taken lessons, even if you have played for a few years, I highly recommend it!!!

There is a reason for that you shoot in the 100s. The good thing about a swing being torn apart during a lesson is that you in the beginning can shank all your balls and still be making progress.

Lessons is definately something I advice.

I have the opposite problem. I went to my my pro and she told me there is nothing fundamentally wrong with my swing and there is no reason I should not be shooting in the 30s. She wants to fast forward to a playing lesson which I hope to do next week. Perhaps I need a shrink.
