Im a 4 that drives the ball 270 and ive only broken 80 at black once out of 6 rounds - in normal conditions. The walk (and you have to walk) wears you out just as much as the golf course does. Getting on the greens is such a great relief... you feel like youre coming home after a hard days work at a steelmill.

If I was ever in the NY area how hard would it to be able to get on there as a single? And how much would it be? How far away is it from NYC? I think that would be a great vacation for me, maybe not the wife.

And there is no way in hell I could break 90 there. I am a decent 10 and drive the ball about 250 pretty consistantly with some in the 270 range.

Bethpage is about an hour or so drive from mid town manhattan. Depending on traffic, it could be more. You could probably cut that down some by cutting through Brooklyn, but its a complicated way to go. I dont know about now since the Open is there, but it used to be pretty easy to get on Black as a single during the work week. Its closed on mondays, though. Ive gone in there like mid-mornings (9-11am) and have gotten on every time. I had to wait a few hours sometimes, but i evenutally got on that day. Somebody always cancels their phone reservation. Im originally from NYC and still have family there, so i still have all my ID current. Its about 60 bucks for me to play. For non-residents i think the rate is somewhere between 80-90 bucks. But dont overlook the other courses if you do trek over. The Blue course is just as good as the Black, IMO.

Thanks for the info. I was thinking of taking a trip in about a year or so. I will probably try to play blue and the black.

Could this be a sign that the U.S. Open Winner is going to shoot something like 4 or 5 under par? Or even lower? I know the grounds crew will firm up the greens and make the pin positions brutal, but with all three celebs doing fairly well (Timberlake barely broke 100 last year at Torrey Pines and he's a 6 handicap), it could be quite the harbinger!

Nice! I called the winning score

before the event started. Congrats, Lucas Glover.

Be fair now: you said "something like 4 or 5 under par." Anything that gives you a two or four-shot "region" isn't "calling the winning score."

And obviously, as we saw, the conditions allowed for the score. The leader shot 73 today. I think the USGA will continue to shoot for around even par.

I guess, if you're truly a Jets fan, you've got to cling to whatever good comes to your world, eh?

If so, and after further thought and as a fan of the Steelers, I'll let you have this one.

I am a bengals fan. I would take either team in a heartbeat. I would love to have the steelers org. You are truely blessed with good ownership.

Hah I would take anyone but my home team, Detroit Lions.

The standard Scratch there is 78 (8 over), so i would shoot 83 in theory if i played on a good day. It's just so long and penal, but im confident i could break 80 after a few practice rounds!

    • Day 142 - 2025-02-19 Had 45 minutes after some GEARS lessons and before a junior. Got some good work in.
    • He wasn't a bad guy. And he was just trying to get out there and get some fresh air and exercise. He ended up liking the new cane a lot, because in addition to not making pock marks on the greens, it also stood up by itself. He didn't have to hand it to somebody to hold while he hit his shot. Or lean it against the cart. It would just stand up by itself. ... Kind of like those stand up putters. ... 🤣
    • Sounds like you guys came up with a great solution.
