Let's see how Ricky Barnes and the other guys who scored low in the second wave do when the USGA doesn't have to provide a generous setup for the players who had to play two rounds in a monsoon.

Indeed. As pathetic as it sounds, everyone who makes the cut is in the tournament. It'll take some PHENOMENAL golf, but two 66s could easily win it for someone at +4 or +3.

It all depends on the weather and the course setup they use in coordination with that weather.

Take a deep breath, man. The USGA couldn't stretch the course out to 7,500 yards for the first round; if they did, half the field would be laying up from the fairway on the longest par 4s, and no one who teed off on Thursday would have broken 75. As it turned out, they got a good break in the weather on Friday and the second wave got to finish two rounds before the rain and wind returned to slow the course down beyond optimal scoring conditions, but those things happen.

Regression to the mean in scoring is a formality at the U.S. Open: only twice in the last decade has the winning score been lower in relation to par than the 36-hole lead, and the number of players under par always dwindles over the course of the weekend. The lowest score from those who teed off Thursday morning is 2-under. Take three players out of consideration, and the lead is only 3-under. Barnes, Glover, or Weir will not card two more rounds in the 60s. They will fall back to the pack, because that's what happens at the U.S. Open.

    • Day 38 (18 Dec 25) - got out in the backyard with grandson this afternoon.  We got into a little game of pitching the ball from about 25yds to a target point just off the asphalt lane behind the backyard.  Goal - just clear it with a quick hop and stop.  Focused on using the wedge swing motion I was talking with the course pro yesterday….smooth and thru just bruising the grass.  In addition to a concentrated focus on technique, it also called for a quiet mind locked in on target point.  Rehearsed this with both the 50° and 55° wedges.
    • I listened to the Shaun Webb one about the swing coach app. Sounds like a great thing and will (hopefully) be very useful for me. I do think the hosts are underestimating where AI could be in a few years. Right now it's just regurgitating stuff that it has been told or it has scrubbed from somewhere else and a human guiding things will be quite a lot more helpful than just the AI, but it's going to keep developing and it will reach the stage where it's figuring this stuff out on its own. Time will come when it will have you do a TPI style screen and take various height/arm length/leg length etc. measurements, have you tell it some history and your time constraints and goals and what not and it will watch a video of your swing face on and DTL and it will know exactly what you need to work on.
