Iron Flex?

Hi all new to the forums...

I currently play Titleist 962's with DG S300s that I have played since early highschool (about 8 years ago). They are starting to become smooth and I also won a set of Ping G10's so I want to trade in for something new.

I am looking at the Titleist 755's as I dont play as much as I want to warrant the 695's. I was wondering about the shaft flex. I found a set that has the DG S300's in them like my old set but they r a bit pricey. I also found another set with the stock Tri-Spec Reg. flex shafts that are more reasonable price.

My swing speed at Golf Galaxy with a 8 iron was low 80's and normal carry of 145-150 yds and I hit the ball very high with my current irons/shafts.

Question is how much of a difference would I see with the Tri-Spec Reg. over the DG S300? Too much? Or is my swing speed not in need of a stiff flex per se?

Interestingly, I switched from my much beloved 962's with S300's to 695cb's, also with S300's about 6 months ago. My swing speed, distance, and ball flight are all similar to yours and I'm completely happy with the shafts. You're also young enough that you as you play more, you'll likely gain some swing speed/distance, not lose it.

Note, the 695's have a bit stronger loft than the 962's and as a result, I picked up about a half club distance on each, though I still tend to hit them pretty high. If you can somehow swing it, I'd really recommend the 695's. As much as I loved my 962's, these suckers are just spectacular.

About the same. Even though they both have a bit of a cavity, I wouldn't characterize either one as any kind of "game improvement" club. 695's are like butter though.......just what you'd expect from a forged Titleist.

I believe I swing in the low 80's or just around 80 with my 6-iron last time I visited Golf Galaxy. I was using a #4 stiff from Ben Hogan which I hear is equivalent to a S300. I'm thinking of moving down to a R300 or a PX5.0 to try and get a little more distance and be able to hit my 3-iron. The PX5.0's are quite pricey so I may just go with the cheaper option of getting R300's. Let me know what you decide and how it turns out for you since it may help my decision as well.

i recently went from S300's to R400's in my irons and it has helped me distance-wise (about half a club longer now). the R300's were a tad bit too whippy and i had control problems with them, but the R400's were perfect for my swing. I am in between stiff and regular, so the R400's turned out to be what i was looking for. another option might be the Nippon 950's. i think those are considered Stiff/Regular shafts too?

What's your swing speed? Fast or moderate tempo, which of course is relatively but just curious anyways.

last time i checked my SS with a 6 iron was in the high 70's, i dont remember the exact speed though. tempo is moderate/smooth

How were you doing with the S300's before you changed? Besides teh shorter distances.

shorter distances, low trajectory, and pushing balls to the right. the R400's fixed that.
