Tattoos?

I totally agree.

I have 6 and one of them is stupid, but a shirt and pants cover all of them, so I never feel awkward. I never felt strongly enough about any of my tattoos to get one on my forehead or neck or something. I do understand that a significant segment of the population is not "down" with the ink so I didn't want to limit my future by getting any major ones. No offense to anyone with sleeves, that's just not for me.

i want to get one just below my right elbow....something my grandma told me before she died. i want it to be like about a 2-3 inch going around my forearm. i'm not sure why i want it there, i have epicondilitis i got from baseball and now i have to always wear a sleeve to keep my right elbow warm so, covering up to look professional will not be a problem because i really do need to anyways.

I got my first tattoo when I was 19, then a few more within the following years. After about five years I was in the same line of thought as you. These things are rediculous. I even went as far as having a few removed [laser]. But, to a trip to Thailand last January I decided to get a traditional Thai tattoo. On my right shoulder blade where noone can see. That opened the flood gates. Last night I had more work done. A cover-up of my very first tattoo. I think its pretty bitchin' so far. My take on tattoos now, I just think it needs to be something someone really cares about. My first ones were just, fly-by-night. No real thought behind them.

There will be more to this one. Some shading to complete the cover-up, but then more of the design up my shoulder and below my chest. Its gonna be rad!

I spent some time in Asia back in the 90s and it was funny to see some of the kids runnin' around with T-shirts that had off the wall stuff like, "crazy kitty cheese hot". It was this mish-mash of English that didn't make any sense at all but to them it looked cool. I have the feeling that there a lot of English speaking people that have the same thing emblazoned on their carcass in Chinese characters.

hahhh never thought of it reversed like that, but your probably right, people here probably have random chinese symbols.. but thats funny, over there they have random english words lol.

I'm from a different generation. I got out of the service in 1971 after 4 years w/o a tattoo or VD, (now know as STD's). So I took that as a message. I do believe that tattoo's can be done tastefully, but IMO rarely see that. Its seems now days "bigger is better".

Well I finally went in & got my old crappy shoulder tattoo covered up, I LOVE the new piece ... so much black & some cool shading!

Now I'm in the same boat as Ben ... I've got the tattoo bug! I went in for the first session of my next new piece about a week ago. It's a big Polynesian leg band about 7" thick, going all the way around my thigh. First session was doing all the line work (that was about 2 hours), my next session in a couple of weeks is going to be fill in & shading work ... all black & gray again. Getting a tattoo on the inside & back of your thigh is WICKED painful! I met a really cool tattooist, it's a shame she's going to be moving to Hawaii for a few months. Hopefully I can keep in touch with her & get more work done in the future!
