Nice swing. Your handicap does not do it justice. The only thing I would try to improve is to start your backswing by rotating your shoulders, as it appears to me that you are now starting the process by cocking your wrists.

Please don´t swing while I´m talking !!

Your body and set up position look good.

But your swing is too far inside and the shaft crosses over at the top. Try take the club back on a wider path and start the downswing with your knees and hips rotating toward the target and just let your arms follow.

I think its pretty good for just starting, its a bit too much arms in the swing but that will evolve.

Great swing, especially the rhythm--your handicap will certainly drop lower with practice.
You tend to overswing a bit (over-rotate with the shoulders due to your flexibility, thus your club goes off plane at the top and beginning of the down swing)

My advice, get lessons now (do not wait 25 years like I did)

Agreed. Your swing is really really solid but it could get even better, and QUICK with lessons. I am no swing expert, and I can't see anything in the video's besides rhythm, and some of your shoulder turn, etc. and it looks real good dude. Very Nice Swing. I'd say get lessons though and you'll get even better and quickly since you already have a good base to build off obviously.

In the side angle video you have a reverse pivot. I imagine you would see something similar with the driver in a side shot. You have to stand up and move your weight back as you come through the ball. Your power and consistency will improve as you work on it. Overall, your fundamentals look ok. It's tough to tell with the video though. Good luck!

I'll give you a free lesson right now... Score better. haha. Seriously it is too hard to tell from the videos. A good Pro will be able to spot out the small things which are actually major. Get a couple lessons.

thanks guys for the tips. i did try starting with the shoulder turn instead of cocking the wrists today at the range.. with the driver my shots were lower with a more peircing ball flight.. but some started way right and took a big ol hook back to the center, and some just stayed right. but ill continue to work on it. I think i need to work more on squaring the clubface now that I am trying to lead with the lower body.

also, I am planning on upgrading my driver. from what you can see do you think I should get a stiff shaft? the one on my driver right now is regular. thanks

I watched all the videos and then was very surprised to see your hdcp. I guess my advice for now would have to be work on your short game!

  • 2 weeks later...

I do tend to shoot myself in the foot alot.. last round I played I had 7 birdie putts that turned into bogeys and 1 eagle putt that turned into par. I also overshot the green quite a few times. Aside from a few brain fart shanks I hit the ball pretty well, my putting absolutely killed me though.

Incredible swing for someone who's only been golfing a few months. As others said, I'd suggest you focus on short game...you've got a swing fit for a near scratch golfer, and it sounds like you hit the ball about as good as could be expected for someone as new to golf as you are. If you're getting that many birdie putts in a round, you should be scoring FAR better then a 20 hcp. I will say that it's obvious you start your swing with the hands instead of the shoulders though--practice starting with your shoulders, as you mentioned doing, and as you get used to the timing you should become more consistent since you're hands won't have time at the top of the swing to tilt off plane (as it is now the hands are up way to early in relation to the rest of your body).

    • By today’s standards that’s certainly true, but they weren’t having any trouble hitting golf balls in 2005 so I’ve equipped myself with what was among the very best equipment around that time for a very reasonable investment. If I get to the point where I feel like I’ve outgrown that stuff, I’ll reward myself with something more current. But for now I don’t need adjustable loft and lie and modern head shape, just a good quality, proven club with a clean club face. For now I’m going to concentrate on the basics. I know you can get more yardage with newer woods, but I don’t care about distance nearly as much as consistency, and you can’t buy that for any price.

    • Trying to feel bit more external rotation of the trail elbow at A4. I think better than what have ever been able to position it.  Forward lunge at impact still a work in progress.
    • Because you're twisting it to hold it open. Forearms, etc. shouldn't be all that tense at setup.
