Crazy 2nd Round Club Match Play

Yesterday was our the 2nd round of our clubs match-play tournament. My bracket is tough and includes several + handicappers, our current club champ-3 years running, plus there is nobody left over a 7 in my bracket. Unfortunately they do not seed the event and it boils down to luck of the draw. The first round was fairly easy and I hit a bunch of good shots and closed my opponent out early. This was not the case yesterday as I was playing one of the better players at my club. I was down the entire match and heading into 16 I was 2 down.

#16 Par 3, 177 yards. Hit a solid shot to 8 feet, 1 putt birdie …now 1 down

#17 Par 4, 450 yards. Toughest hole on the course. Good drive, fair approach, 2 putt par (opponent 3 putted for bogie)…now all square

#18 Par 5, 500 yards. Perfect drive, 205 yd approach to 12 feet. Opponent was in the greenside bunker in 2, hit a solid bunker shot and had 5 feet for birdie. It did not matter though cause I sank my eagle putt…….. GAME OVER!


It will only get harder from here but I'm starting to like my chances. Man, do I love match play!

He was very gracious and polite but I could tell he was ready to explode…didn't even stick around for a beer. Honestly, he deserved to win. I hit the ball like sh*t for at least 11 holes but was able to scramble and stay close.

A fare amount I suppose considering I've got a 6 month old now. Season started off rough but I've been playing pretty well lately. Shot a personal best 84 down in Florida. Handicap has dropped from 22 to 16.9.

Update....on to the semi finals! Just won my 3rd round is similar style. Was down 3 going into 10 and won the match 3 & 1. Put a string of birdies together (3 in a row and 4 of 5) on holes 11 through 15. My opponent was shell shocked and fell apart. I LOVE match play !
