Been playing for about 4 years now and i'm at an 18 handicap and taking my first lesson tomorrow. Anyone that has taken lesson, will one lesson help my game or will i need to take a couple? The main problem i have is my driver. I slice the ball very bad recently. My irons are putting are pretty good.

If you like the instructor and work well with them I'd do more. An experienced eye looking at your swing is worth the money (worth way more than that new driver ). I did a package deal with my coach. The first few lessons were weekly and as I understood my swing more and could feel what i was doing wrong I started to stretch them out in 2-3 week increments

I would suggest taking multiple lessons. It will be hard to fix your swing with just one...but it depends on what you want out of the lessons.

I would go with multiple lessons as well. Use the first as an opportunity to see if you gel with him/her.

I just want to swing the club correctly in the right plane. Ive never had anyone critisize my swing so i'm sure i've picked up alot of bad habits.

If that is the case, then for sure take multiple lessons. I would also suggest using someone that utilizes video. Seeing your swing in slow motion does wonders

HAHA!! Yeah it can be! I am a 4.5 handicap and I was told last week that one part of my swing was "painful to look at." But hey, that is what I like. I told him from day one to shoot it to me straight....he isn't scared to hurt your feelings

the bobby knight approach to golf lessons.

my first coach used to walk around me in circles muttering why I could not figure it out. Was he saying it wrong or did I not know how to accept his information?

the best part about the student-player relationship is the communication. The teacher has to be able to teach you the info in a way you need to learn it, and not accept it the way the teacher knows how to explain it. If you had to make an analogy about a tv show, you will have to find a show that can relate to what the student would watch and not what the instructor likes.

If the student's needs come first and the teachers information second, they will both come out on top.

yeah, multiple. i've had 6 so far this year, with two remaining on my account. I thought I was hitting ok, too, with only a tweak needed for my slice. Wrong. I got re-worked from the ground up. I've never regretted it one bit - my swing is soo much improved.

I'm excited for ya. Enjoy, and be willing to be taught. Hope it goes well.

    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
