I have decided to go with straight custom built clubs to save some money. i am around a 6-7 handi cap, and HAVE to have forged blades...I dont know anything about the new companies out there who manufacture custom clubs. I WANT some pro-line clubs, but just cannot afford the 900 bux for em.

Whats your reccomendations?

Derek,

If you want some high-end, Japanese forged component heads I suggest you try Geotech. They make some incredible irons and can be found here:

You should also take a look at KZG. They make excellent blade heads and are also forged in Japan. There is a fitter on this site, Everado, that has access to these heads. Perhaps he can build you a set.

FWIW, I've hit the KZG Tour Evolution, a player's cavity and they felt fantastic.

Hope this helps.

You won't be saving too much money between the shafts, the heads, the grips, and the materials you'll need to put them together or the labor

Hey Derek,

I took the plunge on a set of Geotech's but not the blades. They are the forged 670 player's cavity, 4-PW. They look a lot like the TM RAC 2005 Cavity Backs and are made of a soft steel. I got them with NS Pro 1050 stiff shafts and Iomic X Grips in white. I was also able to order them at a specific weight: D4. The total price was $790. Personally, I think they're a steal as they are being custom built and the grips alone are normally $150. They should be here in a few weeks and for someone who's never had new irons, well, I'm a kid in a candy store. Will post pics as soon as they come in.

    • Day 35, June 8. Before leaving for work this morning (yes, I'm posting this quite late relative to the practice), I spent 15 minutes practicing at home, into a net.  This time, it was primarily 9-iron (full swings), with some UW (full and half) and a few 6-iron.
    • Day 73: just some mirror work today. Working on feels for being open and getting the front shoulder down.
    • I'm liking this. Finally getting down hands in front of my trail leg pocket consistently at A6 with much better clubhead position (relatively not as tipped out). I can really pressure the shaft through impact with good face control  from this position and stay in balance. Won my first one v one march 5&4 against a 4 hcp who routinely drives it 35-40 yards past me in the men's club match play . Frustrated him with some solid iron play and air tight putting.
    • Day 279 6-8  Worked on low point control skills work tonight. will be doing this for a few weeks. Tonight was just trying figure out how to get low point forward.  No ball.
    • Day 8 (Jun 8 26) - Stayed the drill but added two additional irons (7i, 8i and 9i) - using Divot Board and hard foam balls - focused on tempo and purposed pause at the top….noticing how open the club is marking the board when I try to kill it and how much more square (and better distance) when I focus on these keys.
