Those are nice and I also like the look of the VR series.

i agree, the Nike Pro Combos are pretty irons, but i wish they would've made them without the fake rivots and stripes in the cavity irons.

there are just sooooo many pretty irons that have been made over the years. its hard for me to pick just one

i agree. those Pings are just flat out fugly. but, beauty is all in the eye of the beerholder i guess. some people love the way they look. how? i have no idea

I totally agree. I hate those. I totally dislike the whole lines of PING irons as well. They never made an iron that interested me. And I don't like the way they have the number of the iron written on the club face rotated side wise, and how they use "W" instead of "P" or "PW".

Oh, and the lack of ferrule as well.

I browsed a golf shop today for fun and I came to the feeling that irons today just do not look as good as they used to overall, in my opinion. Even the blades offered by many companies seem pretty "busy" looking. (I'm thinking of the X-Forged and ZM Forged).

I think the best looking ones left are the MP-67's. Callaway X-Prototypes and Miura Blades are nice, too, but they are really expensive. Nike, Cleveland, Wilson, and Bridgestone have some decent ones, as well.

Again, I just think the big players (Titleist, Callaway, TaylorMade, Ping) have strayed away from what I think is that great classic look.

The only cavity backs I remotely like (with regards to looks) are Pings. Ping at least has a distinctive style, while the other brands (in my opinion) just seem to pile on as many high-tech and flashy features as possible. There are some other decent models out there, too, but I think the trend in the golf industry as a whole is that clubs keep getting bulkier, flashier, more high tech, and generally more ugly.

I guess I am just a traditionalist in the mood to complain right now, haha.

I have a fondness for the simple designs of irons I played when I was growing up. So much so that I picked up some second-hand DCIs to get back into the game (they're awesome).

Tommy Armour 845. I learned with these. So easy to hit straight:

Titleist DCI Gold. I only played a couple of rounds with the pro shop demo set, but bought a 2-iron and it became my favourite club:

Mizuno MP-14. Did a bag swap for a couple of weeks with a friend who wanted cavity backs, and can't forget how good it felt to hit these:

I still think the original DCI Golds are the best looking cavity backs ever made.

In the bag: Titleist 909D2 9.5°, 906F2 15°, 585H 17°, AP2 710 3âPW, Vokey SM 52.08 & 58.12, Studio Select Newport 33", Pro V1X.
Home course: Lenzie Golf Club. Working on: ball striking.

Just have to register that I think this whole post is crazy. I would play with a rock tied to the end of a stick if it improved my game. I can honestly say that I have never bought a club, from driver to putter, based on what it looked likely, only on how it performed for me.

    • In the old days, pre-2020, "playing to your handicap" meant a net score about equal to the Course Rating.  that led to problems when people played against each other from different tees, people playing tees with a lower CR would generally shoot lower scores.  Course Handicaps were adjusted for each competition to make it even, usually lowering the course handicap for the "forward tee" players. So now if you "play to your handicap", the (68.4-72) term means your score will be even par, no matter which tees you play from.  No adjustment needed for people playing from different tees.  Look at your example, the guy shoots 82 every time, his Course Handicap of 10 gives him an even par net score every time.
