Guys i am currently playing a 905r. v2 76g shaft 44.5"

I finally got to try a 909D3 the other day with a voodoo Stiff... they only had an 8.5, but it felt great, (i would get a 9.5) and most importantly i could tell that my overworked cuts and draws were less shapely than with the 905r... exactly what i want. plus i feel like i'm almost swinging the same club with the d3... so close looking to the 905r...

so my question is-- should i be playing a d3? i feel like i don't need the extra spin that the d2 or comp offers i avg 275 and am just fine with that, just want to hit more fairways... but will i get more forgiveness by playing a d2? I can't figure out if the extra head size will help me from overworking the ball more, or if the lower spin of the d3 with be most beneficial. As far as ball striking goes, i feel like i hit it right most of the time.... i feel like i just need lower spin... so have i answered my own question or should i get a d2? less spin d3 or bigger face d2? I wish i could hit a d2 but i'm not sure i will find one to hit for a while.

thanks

Erik

I also switched from a 905r to a D3 with the voodoo. They look and feel more or less like the same club to me. I havent noticed much difference in forgiveness. I was hitting the D3 really high on the face the first few weeks i had it, which made me to belive it was heavier, but ive now come to find out i was swinging too steeply. I demoed the d2 and didnt notice much difference between the two in terms of forgivness. It does launch a little higher though. If you hit a predominant draw or fade, it will not be as easy with the D2 than it is with the D3, but its not really a big deal.

What im most unhappy with the D3 is the voodoo shaft. Its too whipy and i hit balloon balls with it. I almost have to forward press it to keep the ball down and on proper trajectory. Ill be switching back to the proforce V2 i had in my 905R when i go on vacation in a few weeks.

If you hit the 905r well, then you should hit the D3 well. It seems more or less a progession from the 905R. I wouldnt be worried about titliest marketing jargon saying it is for "highly skilled players"

The 909 d2 does look a little big at address...

There is very little difference in straightness between the d2 and d3. You probably not even tell a difference at all. But, the d2 might help you mentally because if you think the d2 will go straighter, chances are you will hit it straighter. Don't be intimidated by the d3, it is just as straight as the d2 and the 905r. Get the d2 if it helps your confidence to hit it straight, but if you don't think there is a difference between the two go with the d3. It spins less, and it looks sexy at address. I hope this helps, and good luck

From everything I've read and been told the 905R is the BEST Titleist ever made so anything less would be uncivilized.

I would reccomend trying the D2 with a low-launch, low spin shaft. Grafalloy has some good budget options, Diamana white or blue board or Fujikura Rombax Z-series or Speeder are the best if you don't mind breaking the bank. The D2 was made as an upgrade to the 905R, whereas the D3 was an upgrade to the 905T. As expected, the D2 does have noticeably less sidespin.

Just my 2 cents: I would go with the 909D3 or stick with the 905R... I bought the D2 and I'm not real happy with it... It's in the closet now and I'm hitting an R9... I still have my 905R as a backup... When I got fitted it just seemed like the D2 was best but I have hit several D3's since and wish I would have gone with it instead if the D2.

Thanks for the feedback guys. I think I'll get the d3. I also felt like the deeper face was a huge plus for different traj control options. I can tee it higher than my 905r. Also think I'll get the diamana 65g stiff.

I have the 909D3 and absolutely love it, I've done a little shaft tweaking to get the right ball flight but if the stock Voodoo works for you then go for it.

I have the D3 and love it... won't be changing anytime soon (I don't think).

When I was fitted for it, I tried the D2 and D3 on the Trackman and both gave me nearly identical numbers. There's not much difference in launch angle and spin between the two drivers and honestly, most amateurs don't have a consistent enough swing from one swing to the next to know if their low trajectory was because of the clubhead they chose or because of their swing. You'll be fine with whatever head you choose. I chose the D3 because I liked the looks of the smaller head. Go with whatever will give you the most confidence to hit the ball. No one here can tell you what to get because everyone sees different things when they set the club down behind the ball. Good luck.
