Hi. I'm 14 and last year I started getting into golf. Now I am glad I did and love the game. I do, however, need some help as far as choosing what I should choose to replace what I'm using. My bag, driver, 3 wood, 5 wood and sand wedge are all staying (look at my signature), but I need to upgrade my irons, putter, ball, and get a lob and maybe a gap wedge. It needs to stay pretty economical though, because I'm only 14 and money isn't at all easy to come by for me. For golf balls, I'm really only looking at the e6+, e7+, and NXT Extreme. I'm not at the level where I should be playing balls that are $45.00 a dozen just yet. I have had my eye on the Adams Insight XTD irons at Dick's Sporting Goods, and I really like the Nickent 3dx irons at rock bottom golf. Are either of these any good? I really can't afford more than 200 for irons at the moment. For wedges, I can't afford to pay 120 bucks each. What are some good wedges that I can get for under 100 bucks each? And finally, for my putter I really want an Itsy-Bitsy Spider, cuz it's only 100 bucks, I like it, plus it's Taylormade. I only have 4 tm clubs, but I'm already a bit of a fanboy haha. So there. You can see what I've had my eye on, and let me know what you think. I'd like to hear any recommendations all of you guys have as well. Thanks, mhodar13

The wedges would be an easy call with Adams Tom Watson PVD wedge set that comes with the 52º, 56º, and 60º all for under $100.

Golf ball, I'd recommend whatever decent ball you can get cheap. Wilson Zip's and 50's, TopFlite Gamers, Taylormade Burner TP, and such. Buying used golf balls is also another option.

I'd think the Nickent iron set will work out great for you with the 2 hybrids that it comes with. It's also well within your price range.

I was actually talking about the nickent 3dx red, the ones that are $120. they're just 3-pw, no hybrids. I like irons better than hybrids, I hit my 3 knockoff farther than my friends' Acuity 3 hybrid. I'm not one of those people who struggles with their 3 and 4.

Another thing I didn't mention is that I will probably end up with a bunch of gift cards to Dick's Sporting Goods for my Birthday, so I might not be able to get the nickents or the watson wedges. How are the rac wedges? I think they're 80 at dick's right now, so I'll see.

I purchased the Adams Ovation 3 Iron Set from Dick's last summer for $199 (I think it ended up being something like $170 because they were the display set) and I like them so far. For whatever reason, it seems like they were the clubs that never existed because I have a hard time finding anything about them online. Anyways, I haven't played with the Insight XTD Irons, but I would imagine they play similarly to mine, and I would definitely recommend them.

Is there any way you can go above $200? The reason I ask is because one of the best deals I've seen on a brand new set is $392 for the Ping G5 irons. Is fitting needed? If not, ebay is the answer. I've seen some Nike Pro Combos and some CCI's on there for a little over $200. I've also seen some Titleist 755's for a little less than $200.

Anything in particular you're looking for?

I don't know, it all depends on what I get for my birthday. I think I should worry about getting the putter first, then the irons since putting is where I struggle.

As for what I'm looking for, I want the nicest brand new stuff I can get for the lowest price, lol. I could get the itsy bitsy spider and the 3dx irons for 230 bucks, but I probably won't have that much to spend. Oh well, I'll see how it goes. What about balls? How are the e6+? I'm most interested in those and the e7+.

For the wedges, try rockbottomgolf. If you're looking there for the Nickent irons, go to the "Wedge Sets" section and you should see the Adams Idea Pro Forged wedges...3 for $130! They look sweet and I was considering getting them until I hit a Vokey (I work at a course, so I can get 2 Vokeys for about the same price as the Adams IPF).

Yeah I really wanna get a few spin milled vokeys, but if I can't find them for under 100 bucks I'll get either tm racs or clevelands. Clevelands are really good to right?

If I get enough money for my birthday, I'll get fitted for a set of irons at Golf Galaxy. I wanna get irons and a putter, then get the wedges. I'll tell people I want Golf Galaxy gift cards for my birthday instead of Dick's.

As far as wedges go, i really like clevlands black wedges (not sure on the exact model but u can spot em a mile away) I own a cheap set of clubs but have a dicks near by so i have swung basically every club they have, You should also take a look at wilson ci7 irons, cheap and great quality. All the reviews rave about them. Calloway's big bertha irons are a classic too that seem to travel the same distance no matter how bad i hit them. just my experince

For wedges if you do not want to spend alot, the Watson 3 wedge set is a great deal. Clevelands are also a great wedge for a cheap price.

Do you know what degree wedges you're looking for? 3balls has 2 54* spin-milled vokeys for $50.

Also here are a few iron sets for under $200. A friend of mine uses the TaylorMade RAC OS 2 irons and really likes them.

oh i see. hmm.. As far as vokeys go, you should be able to find them new for around $100. I think I bought mine a few years back for less than $125 new from a local golf shop.
