From 25'.. What can you do but laugh? I went 4 rounds a couple weeks ago without a 3 putt and have been really rolling the ball well but on the front today I had 22 putts and on the back 17. At least it got better but all I can do right now is giggle

Its been done... Club Championship when in 1999 2 tier green and some wise guy thought i'm going to put the pin right at the edge of the top tier. Basically if you tried to make your putt and went 2 to 3 inches past it was gone. I made a couple trips up and down than finally left one short for a tap in triple.

I saw a 5-putt a couple years ago in a tournament. The pin was cut on the side of a ridge and the green was dry and very fast. One of my playing partners was above the pin and barely tapped his putt. It caught the lip of the cup which gave it more speed, and it rolled off the green. He hit his second putt too hard, it caught the right edge of the hole, which sent it 90 degrees to the left, and again, the speed of the green caused him to have an 8 foot uphill, sidehill breaker. He tried to ease his third putt, but didn't give it enough break, leaving a left-to-right 3 footer. After missing that, he tapped in for his 5-putt.

I four-putt more often than I'd like to mention. I haven't five-putted in a while but I know I've done it - it's just blocked from my memory.

My course has a few holes where the ball will roll right back if you leave the putt an inch or two short, or it will lip out and trickle completely off the green.

On a related note, last night I saw a guy whiff with his putter . He was trying to give it a little extra gas from the fringe and jerked it right past the ball... really ugly.

Oh man... hahaha. You would have never heard the end of that if you played in our group. And you would have had to buy the beers on top of that.

Why do we play?? I have 4 putted. Never the five banger.

Don't you just love when you got 3 feet for a 3 putt and you are so mad?

I feel your pain.......nothing worse than standing over that 4th putt and realizing that it's not a "kick in", is there?

I was playing a round with a friend of mine a my girlfriend's dad this weekend. My friend and I always play closest to the pin for a couple of bucks on all par 3's, and on the one we decided that to win you had to make par. As I said that you had to make par on that hole, my girlfriend's dad told me about the time in his league where he would have won the prize for closest to the pin for that hole (i think a $5 gift certificate) when he stuck his tee shot to 2 feet. The only problem was that he 4 putted from 2 feet and was too embarrassed to move the stick to where his shot landed and write his name because he didn't want anyone to see that he took a double on a par 3 from 2 feet away.

never had a 5 putt (though with the state of my putting game it may come) but I 4 putted a couple rounds ago from about 30 ft. hole as on a mean side slope. par 5, got on in regulation thinking i'd have an easy par and i wind up kickin' it 4 times!! it's a horrible feeling.

    • Day 11, 1/11/26.  Today was putting, along about 6' of carpet, with coins on the ground to keep me cognizant of what I'm doing.  I think this is the at-home drill from LSW. (Ugh, missed two of the last four days -- 1/10 and 1/8)
    • Day 9: 2026.01.11 Hit some balls at the range, concentrating on weight distribution at address, got some on film.
    • Day 468 - 2026-01-11 Loooooong day. Did some work in the patio door (as a mirror) when I got home.
    • I caught a video on this driver; the face tech seems crazy. Looking at the heat map for ball speed, hitting it basically anywhere on the face only loses a few percent ball speed. The surprising and counter intuitive part to me was that for flat faced clubs, ball speed loss is directly proportional to distance loss. For clubs with bulge and roll this is apparently not true. The surprising part of that story being that the max distance potential looks to be a tiny pee sized area for this driver, and I feel in general for drivers. The counter intuitive part being (the myth?) that blade irons have a pee sized sweet spot and missing that tiny spot causes dramatic losses. And that modern drivers, maybe 2017 on, have massive sweet spots and are ultra forgiving. Where in reality, if this heat map data is valid and reliable, it might be a bit of the opposite. This insane tech driver appears to have a pea sized "sweet spot" while Mizuno Pro 241 irons are 28% more forgiving compared to the average of all clubs measured. Not compared to other players irons, compared to all clubs from all categories, players to SGI! The Pro 241 being essentially just a solid chunk of metal with no "tech" at all. Which for me devolves into a whole mess of what is forgiveness really? And in measurable and quantifiable results how many yards, or feet, does that translate into?
