I'm really looking for something that is long off of the tee but gives you a nice amount of spin around the green.

The balls I've used so far are Taylormade TP Red/Black.LDP, Callaway HX Hot, Bridgestones E5+. They're all nice, I get the most spin out of the TP Reds and the most distance from the TP Blacks.

I'm looking for something along the lines of the Pro V1x, but something not as expensive. I'm an 19 year old college student working part time and can't afford to keep paying $45 a dozen for golf balls. Any suggestions would be helpful.

Irons: R7 Irons 4-PW
Balls: GamersWedge: 60.08º Vokey Spin Milled Wedge - Oil Can

I would try out the Nike Power Distance Soft. They're about 20 bucks for a dozen, and i think they're GREAT. they give good distance, and you still have some spin and feel.

You might also look at the e6+ and e7+, I was not a fan of the e5+, they didn't feel right to me.

Yeah, wanna make 14 dollars the hard way?

Top Flite Gamer is the best ball for your buck. Great ball flight and good spin but the cover is a little weak.

what about used ProV1s? I get balls from Onlygolfballs.com and its cheap. Just a thought for ya.

Nike One-Tour D's are very good. Low trajectory off the tee with not soo much spin. Then have a great touch on the green for that stop on a dime feel.

I've heard some good thing about those balls, but never got around to actually buying them because I've never liked Top Flite balls.

I'll try the e6/7+ also. Thanks.

Along with the already mentioned topflite gamers I would check out the Wilson Staff Zips. For how soft they are they are pretty darn long. As with the gamers you can get them for a song. I'm a college student as well and am in the same boat with not wanting to spend a fortune on balls. Hope you find what you're looking for.

Just the opposite. I loved the e5+ a lot and play that as my regular ball now. They're so soft!

Best value out there is the Srixon AD 333: 2 twelve packs for $25. It's just as long as anything else I've hit this year and they are a dream to putt with.

Only question mark for you will be if they have the amount of spin you are looking for.

I like the Gamer's and they are inexpensive. If you like something that really feels soft around the green, you might consider the Nike Karma. It's marketed towards women but I just love how they feel around the green.

Get some sleeve's of inexpensive balls and try out a bunch of different ones. I don't buy balls for distance anymore - I find the distance to be relatively the same regardless. It's the feel when pitching, chipping, and putting that matters most to me.

Ya, I've tried that before, but the balls I got we're in crappy shape. Website said they were Nearly Mint Condition and 6 of them had scuff marks on them. I payed $25 for a dozen and couldn't even use 4 of them, might as well had bought a brand new dozen. So now I don't buy used balls anymore.

I found a Bridgestone Tour B330-S the other day and it has loadsa spin. How ever, i am about the buy a few of the slightly less spiny B330-rx as they have less driver spin.

    • When I got to Florida this season (seasons instead of years since the years overlap) one of the guys asked what I had done, said I was about twenty yards longer with my driver. Said that I had a different driver which was true but looking back it’s really the shaft that’s been the difference. It’s similar in principle to the Autoflex in that it’s light weight and also light flex. Since most of my clubs are bought used I have difficulty finding senior shafts most of the time and being old and slow that’s what I need. Bought the Callaway driver, for several years I preferred Ping drivers, because they only had a couple of used drivers with senior shafts in my price range and it’s been probably the best I’ve had. Longer and very forgiving, decent distance even on my mishits and almost always in play. Keep in mind that my swing speed is probably under 70mph.
    • Day 17 - First round of the year. It took me about 6 holes to remember how to hit off grass. Short game was lacking, but the round could’ve been much worse. It’s nice that my new “bad” is my old “good.”
    • Yes this was what I was thinking you have two golfers same 5 HC same swing speed 110Mph ...one you changed the driver head to a 10yr old model head but the same loft etc the other you changed shaft ...now if its just 10yr old shaft of the same flex weight etc it would be more so the newer head IMHO ..but if the shaft was changed to softer flex lighter than player was use to then the shaft would be the winner IMHO
