I seriously think the Club shop guy was wrong here

Today i played a round with some friends. On whole one we were waiting for one to show up so we were sitting by the tee box. After we hit and we are down the fairway a club shop guy drives up and tells us we need to get off the tee box with out cart. My friends kinda shook it off cause they weren't on tee boxes. So then on hole three my friends park on the ruff back from the tee box. And sure enough here this guy comes again (he has another guy with him this time) and he is pissed. He says you guys are parked on the tee box again. And we point and say no we are in the ruff. And he says no you are in line with the tee boxes so that means u are on them. Then he goes on about how he has been watches us for the last 10 minutes and we have been slamming on the brakes and tearing up the course with out carts? And we are only 2 holes in? He tells us to knock all this Sh*t off. Ok then. We then see him drive back to chew out more people who were in the ruff by the tee box on hole number 2.

This course i golf at is not nice looking. It costs 13 dollars to play 9. I honestly think this guy was just BSing bad. They were doing nothing wrong (i was walking). They were parking in the correct spot. I think the fact that we are all 18 and under might have had something to do with it

If you're teeing off, you should park your cart on the cart path close to the side that the tee box is on, but still completely on the path. Regardless if you're on the rough and not on the actually teeing area, its a common courtesy to everyone and the course itself. And by the way you said how the course is in bad condition, it still matters how you treat it. If one person makes an effort to keep a course nice then others follow along and can change a course. Imagine if you fixed your ball mark on the green and another everytime you played? The greens would start looking a lot better.

Next time listen to the people running the course, you're a guest on their property. Treat it well.

You knew what he meant the first time he said it, so why do it again?

I completely agree with the comments above. Most people are not respectful of the courses or the other patrons. You should not be anywhere near the tee box with your cart except completely on the path.

I try and repair as many ball marks as I can when on a green. If you are good enough to making ball marks on the green when hitting approach shots and do not have the common courtesy to repair them, I have no respect for your game. Respect the game and you will enjoy it a lot more.

IMHO, this guys did not effectively communicate with you the first time. If you are in the rough, you are not "On the tee box". He should have said "Keep the carts off the grass around the tee boxes." or something to that effect. Also, I don't think this is such a huge faux-pas on your part, unless the cart path has a curb, in which case you were obviously very wrong.

I avoid all this confusion by just simply keeping the cart on the intended cart path.

If the course is not in good shape it is probably because people keep driving and parking in the grass when they do not need to. That is why most golf courses have the 90 degree rule, so people dont just drive in the grass.

I will admit that parking in certain areas over and over again cause the grass to die. But people at my course park in this spots all the time. Ive seen people who work for the club house park there. This guy just decided to chew them out cause they are kids. I find it funny that u can drive on the fairways but u cant park it in the rough behind the tee box?

I don't. It makes sense to me. On the fairways, the traffic is spread out. On the tee boxes, quite concentrated.

Look, I try to stay at least 20 yards from tee boxes and 30+ yards from greens, whether there's a path or not, and you would be well advised to do the same. I'm guessing there's a second side to the story, and we've not heard it. People generally don't go around yelling at people for the heck of it. They're far more likely to avoid confrontation. So I have a hard time believing y'all were pure as the driven snow here. But since we can't hear the other side, well, nobody really knows. So you've vented, and maybe you've learned a little bit, but I doubt this has really accomplished much.

LOL i wasnt even the one driving the cart . I was walking. I always walk. I think golf carts are the worse thing that ever happened to golf. Anyways if i thought they were doing something wrong i wouldnt have worried about it. But if some guy comes along and says he has been watching us for 10 minutes. WTF is that.

Mistake #1.

They were doing SOMEthing wrong, that's why the guy came out. "Shaking it off" means ignoring it - not smart and not courteous either. If what the guy said didn't make sense, they needed to ask for clarification. So the course is rough - you should be happy this clubhouse guy is TRYING to get golfers to respect the course and hopefully it will get better. Of course he watched you guys, and they proved he was smart to do so by running up on the tee area a second time. Sorry, you are 100% dead wrong on this one. Listen to what the course operators tell you, get clarification if needed, and comply. If you can't or don't want to comply, go play somewhere else.
