Let me make myself clear (sorry, don't mean to sound like an ass)

1. I don't want an explanation of what bounce is.
2. I don't want an explanation of how bounce works.

I'm looking for purely theoretical answers.. that is, what should happen based on common knowledge about bounce. I know the answer(s) depends on my swing and the lie and the condition of the grass/sand... I just want a general answer to "What if...?"

All I want to know is, If I am satisfied with my 56* 14 bounce SW - meaning I don't hit it thin, and I don't dig graves for divots - is there a specific degree/bounce combination i should be looking for when buying a 50-52* gap wedge?

Also, If I were to get a 56* 11 bounce SW, what is likely to happen If I didn't adjust my swing for such a club? Would I be hitting everything thin, heavy, what?

Less bounce just means you're going to dig into the sand a little more.

Here is an article on this site describing what you want to know:

In general, a gap wedge has between 6-8 degrees of bounce. A SW 12-14, although I usually see SW's at 8-14.

If you're happy with your bounce on your SW, play it! A gap wedge wants less obviously.

I also use a 56-14 SW and I use a 52-8 gap wedge. 8* bounce works well for me on the gap wedge, I usually play it from about 100 yds out on moderate soil.

If you go to a 56-11, you may find your club digging a little deeper on wet or loose conditions.

I think it depends on what you intend to use the club for, I don't like a lot of bounce on my GW as I use it exclusively from 100 yards in. I hit pitches, chips, belly putts everything with it, so I prefer minimal amount of bounce. Also the turf conditions in the summer in the midwest can get pretty challenging, not much grass and hard ground, so again minimal bounce. You might see if your local golf retailer has some demo or used wedges that you can take and try before you buy.

    • Day 39: did top golf for an hour with the family. It was fun but also not really like real golf at all. Also did some mirror work - working on the backswing stuff mostly.
    • Day 4, 1/2/26.  Played 18 today;  didn't get a chance to warm up (had I known the range was closed, I'd have hit balls at home first).  Played okay, 92 with three balls in the water.  It was raining for more than half the round and I didn't quite appreciate before today just how much I benefit from roll on both drives and approach shots.  I did not adapt well to this change until about hole 15, which is something I have to figure out.
    • Day 143 1-2 Arch wrist in downswing. Having a SLIGHT cup in the lead wrist at the top now. Only paused swings with some rehearsals before swinging at ball.  Used foam ball.
    • Day 459 - 2026-01-02 Had two guys on GEARS Hybrid, so I hopped on afterward (I'm going to do this a lot more often now). So… I've signed myself up for another month of backswing work in two ways: A little more extension of the trail elbow (got into the upper 90s) Less pelvis turn (low 50s).
    • Day 31 (2 Jan 26) - Usual Friday men’s group shootout - good day of shot making  as most shots were right on line to the target point.  Putter and green reads were solid with some great par saves and a really tricky birdie.
