Paddy tells us we should

Anybody else see this Sports Science episode where they tested out the Happy Gillmore swing by having Paddy do it? At the end of the segment (after he averaged thirty more yards) he said that he wouldn't do it because of the inaccuracy of the shot but that the rest of us should. I'm thinking no. If Paddy was off line on some shots there is no telling where I'd be, even if I did make contact. Plus he's practiced it/played around with it a lot. Your thoughts?

Yea I saw it. It was amazing because if you look at his angles, they are the same despite the fact that he is running up to the ball!

And he had to be joking by saying we should do it... Crazy Irish.

Yeah I thought it was pretty amazing when they showed that the club was in the exact same spot on the regular and the HG swing.

i've tried it at a large, empty driving range. difficult to hit the sweet spot. no way would i try it on the course. too dangerous.

Maybe the way Paddy's playing this year (with his swing changes), HE should take his own advice and use it himself.

Pretty awesome golfing ability, to be able to hit a pure driving while running at the ball.

I did it once just for grins. I found a ball in the rough on the way back to the cart after a 5 wood from the fairway. I ran up and hit it like HG, and I'll be damned if the thing didn't roll up onto the green past the bunker on the left front of the green(where my shot ended up), and within 10 feet of the pin.

I felt like I should just quit for the day right then. I tried to play it off like it was something that I could do regularly, but I couldn't keep a straight face for more than a couple of minutes.

Wow that is pointless. I would be interested and impressed if he drove 350 using the swing, but an extra ~25 yards is no big dea for such a drastic move.

I've tried it a few times on the range. Well, actually, not a full on Happy Gilmore but more like a baseball player hitting a ball. Take a big step into it and hit it. I played a lot of baseball and it is pretty easy to hit them pretty well doing that.

I actually will do that on the range for a couple of reasons. Hitting a few like that with the big step into the ball will help me get the feeling for transferring all my weight to the left side through the downswing and clearing my hips. I also find that if I ever shank a ball or two, a few swings like that will cure me right away.
