Yeah it looks like a sand scratch. Really, that isn't a big deal. I'd say sanding it down is probably worse since now the face is going to be uneven.

That ball must have really been covered in sand though. I've gotten a few small scratches from sand and it isn't a big deal. But that's a whole new level.

Good luck getting it replaced. They really should.

If they don't replace it, don't even worry about it. Remember, it's a golf club, and it's gonna get scratches and chips. I thought I had it bad when I got a pinhead sized chip in the paint on my burner. Then, days after perfectly touching up the chip, I get a skymark. I just said whatever and touched it up with black paint. At that point, I wasn't even upset because I finally realized that things like that are inevitable. As long as the club still works exactly as good, I just roll with it. No dents, no problems.

I'm going to ask the question, why would Callaway replace it? I understand that most OEM's want to stand behind their products quality, but in this case its not due to a defect in the driver. It's simply just bad luck. Not the fault of Callaway and not the fault of the poster. If they do offer to fix or replace it, that's great customer service, but if they determine that it is not their problem, that's understandable. If my son throws his Wii remote through my LCD, I don't think LG is going to send me a repalcement.

You are 100% right. But the Callaway customer service is just that great. They would replace it for him. We've had several members here on forum who had gone through similar experiences and they replaced the driver for them. I remember one who hit his driver against the ground in anger, the shaft snapped and they replaced it, another guy (with a Diablo driver as well) hit his club head against a steel post unintentionally on his follow through putting a huge dent on it and a small break in the head's metal. He was skeptical but they did replace it for him.

Yeah, I tend to feel that way too. If they do replace it, that likely comes at a cost (albeit small) to every other customer.

You scuffed it (not the quoted guy, obviously). Live with it, I say. You could call and check to ask, but I don't think you've got good odds.

Wow, that was some nasty mark.

I got one on my driver this week. It is not any way near your mark. it is blue/blackish, and pretty much in the sweet spot of my Nike Sumo driver. The thing that confuses me, is the fact that I was hitting a Pro V1x ball with it... I`ll come back with pictures.

I have made one hole in one this far. While you are reading this, I am most likely out on the tee trying to sink another one

I'm starting to think that rather than having threads that rave about Callaway service, there should be some about Callaway customers expecting things they aren't entitled to. The OP seems to have solved the problem himself and seems happy enough.

Why is the automatic reaction to "Call Callaway for sure". I am seeing a really irritating trend here where people are expecting things they're not entitled to and basically being dishonest. On what basis would you make the call? I know that they might be nice to you, but that isn't the point. Do you call Toyota when your car gets scratched at the shopping centre car park?

Which says as much about the player as it does Callaway. And it is not a very positive thing. Imagine even thinking you might get a replacement, let alone actually trying. The fact that he was successful is not the point.

Please, that scuff won't affect the club at all! The only thing I could see affecting playability is a dent or crack. Chips and scratches don't affect the club, no matter how big or small they are.

The price is built into the club already. They have a pretty good feel for how many of these things are going to come back and price accordingly.

I agree that it isn't Callaway's fault at all this happened, but with club market being so competitive right now, OEM's will hopefully go out of their way to satisfy customers. So why not take advantage of this competition where the consumers are the prize? I read somewhere not too long ago that a lot of these OEM's actually keep you on file and will help you out with bad luck incidents like this here and there. But if you become a repeat offender they will eventually reject it and send it back and you're out of luck. So if you got a new club and totaly hosed it there's a good chance they will look out for you. But if you keep doing it you run out of luck. Sounds fair.

yeah... it only looks ugly...

my brother has a huge dent on the side of his cobra and he can still hit it a mile... his only problem is a question of tournament play... luckily he has a spare

Ouch!!!! That looks ugly, I can feel your pain. The new driver man!!!

But, try call Callaway, they might have a solution! or let it be and continue playing it. If your friends ask, tell them you just hit the ball so far that it leaves a nasty mark on the face!!!

That happened to me at the range ball with my old 905R driver. There was a pretty good sized scuff right off the centerline of the face. It was never a problem though. The club worked fine.

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong). 
    • Day 17: did mirror work while watching TV. Working on wrist feels. 
    • Day 315 - 2025-08-12 Got a little work in before Juniors showed up for one of their Summer Sessions.
    • I always knew it as high but never that distance was 90-95% of rating! That has always played to my advantage. I never have but I could totally vanity cap myself by playing **super** long courses that are otherwise super easy. There was one course like that in LA that I used to play that helped my cap like that. The back tees were close to 7k yards, but otherwise the course was incredibly easy. Wide open, misses almost always had a play at the green from the adjacent hole, flat greens, not challenging green complexes, etc. But it got a high rating because it was so long. So I could swing hard, spray and pray, and score well (relative to my handicap).
