I've been playing for parts of two years and am improving steadily. So far my imporvement has gone like this.

Fall (August-October) 2007- Started playing golf, played senior year in hs, some how pulled an honorable mention all star, improved handicap from (est.) 50 to 31

Winter (November-March) 2008- Didnt play at all

Sping/Summer (April-August) 2008- Played golf once or twice a week, improved my hanidcap from 31 to 23

Fall/Winter/Spring (September-April) 2008/09- Didnt play at all

Summer (May-August) 2009- Play and/or Practice several times a week, improved my handicap from 23 to 12.

So I've been playing for 2 years but i really didnt play at all for 13 of the 24 months. So im wondering if there goals are reasonable for me. Im getting ready to start my sophmore year.

End of year (sophmore): Single Digit Handicap
End of next year (junior): 5 Handicap

Then if im a 6 handicap I think I would be able to transfer to a smaller D2 oir D3 school and play on the golf team for my senior year.

So is it reasonable?

If you're actually improving at the rate you claim with really no practice why don't you start practicing because at your rate you would be a scratch in 2 years. Now as for a 6 handicap you could play at some D3 schools but no D2 schools unless you looked around to find a below average one. Think about it like this you will be a senior walk on at a 6 handicap playing against freshman and sophomores with the same handicap if not better. The coaches generally give all the kids they recruited a spot and 2 walk ons that are generally freshman or sophomores.

I dont think its unreasonable. But like anything its harder to improve on your existing improvements. To me its like losing the last 5lbs when your dieting/working out. You have to work harder to achieve your goals.

Like me for example, I have been practicing putting and chipping almost every day, I have seen vast improvements on score cards. My scrambling is unstoppable. But lately my GIR has been taking a beating. So I've been working on my distance/accuracy control.

Its a never ending battle... But if you motivated you can do it.

I wish my school had a team while I was going. I started playing my junior year and I just graduated this year so this is my second season and I've been practicing down to single digits. However, I was a varsity athlete 3 year captain of my swim team so I can recognize how much better you get training with a team like that. Even if it's D3, having team training every day with a coach, it gets you pretty close to practicing like it's your job. I'd say take advantage of your school's team right now and see how it works out. You should improve extremely quickly, and all the competition you'll be getting into is great for your athletic development as well.

Strong work and good improvements. The problem with your plan is that you can't transfer more than 2 years of academic credit. So even if you could transfer to play golf, you would have to retake a year of classes.

Are you sure about that?

That's how it worked for me.

If you think about it, it makes sense. You can't go to a weaker school then transfer to the stronger school for the last year and claim a degree from the stronger school. 3/4ths of your education was at the weaker institution. EX: You can't do three years at StateUniv X, then transfer to Harvard for your final year and claim to be a Harvard graduate. In order to graduate you have to have the majority of your classes completed at that institution.

And just having a low handicap won't get you into school. Schools want to see your tournament scores and how you compete against others.

And handicap is just a number, they want tangible results.
