105 Mph swing speed and 230 drives? I'd say you have contact issues.

I probably avg 270, with a 108mph (avg) swing speed. Oh My fiance and I live with my parents, I drive a 4runner, she drives a Lexus, and she is above avg looking. I never took the SAT so yes it was perfect. but i do have a 22" schlong, that I putt with. :)

270 on avg, I dont know what my carry is but my ball doesnt roll very far after hitting the ground.

I saw a post here where we had a guy smack his 3 wood 270 yrds ( on average so for every shot less than 240 he was hitting one 300 yrdr ) LOL, I fear an infection of Tigeritis. Now i don't pretend to be a smoker with the driver but I had my swing timed at just over 105 so I'm not slow either but I can only muster up 230 carry ( and I'm hitting pretty much close to the sweet spot most of the time ) Also, I see 15+ handicappers talk of shaping the ball left and right, hitting high spinning 8 irons or low running jobs as required. In my case I just hit the ball towards the hole, and go up to it and hit it again till it drops in. Have I got too simplistic a view on this game?

If you're swinging 105 MPH and only carrying it 230, you need to go get a new driver that is better fitted for you.

Of course, that is assuming you want to carry it farther. Maybe playing in the wind in Ireland you want to keep the ball closer to the ground and play more roll.

holy crap, I actually was rated by bridgestone and srixon to be significantly over 110mph and I still fall around your guys 270-280 range, I must really suck at hitting the sweetspot.

Anyways, I love making shots. Maybe you don't like to be creative, but I find it more fun trying to work the ball and it works out more times than not while also giving me a good oppertunity to manage the possible miss.

240 yards, 1998 dodge ram, and I love to hang out in strip clubs... lol as for the shaping shots and such, i can hit a fade and can hit a draw with just about all my clubs, mind you it;s not always a controlled fade or draw but i can do it. I do agree that sometimes people just try to do to much, i find alot of rounds i go out and just try to hit the center of the green and 2 putt i have better rounds. who knows it's just the competitive side in people i guess. honestly who doesn't want to hit the nice 160 yard 7 iron with a slight cut to 4 feet??? sounds os easy when you type it huh, haha.... oh well at least i hit my driver straight, not very long but usually in the fairway..

If you want to call someone out for focusing on their strength, something that probably makes golf more fun, then way to dampen their day.
I can hit the ball as far as you are mentioning, but I also can be pretty wild. I would gladly exchange distance for control. If I only thought about how big my slice is, rather than one area that I can stick out in, I would have stopped playing by now.

My swing speeed with my driver is about 100-105 - usually get about 270-280 carry, I drive a 2001 Jeep Wrangler (still runs like new), and my wife played softball at Virginia Tech.

I usually will shank a ball at least once every weekend and I will do at least one during a session at the driving range. Now that I'm used to having Shankapotomous come out of his cage during a round, I don't fall to pieces like many players do after they shank one - in fact, I've parred several holes after shanking an approach shot just by hitting a wedge close and rolling a putt in - that is as big a confidence boost as you can get.

I usually practice five times a week - On Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, I go out to a grass field behind my office and hit my lob wedge at a bottle of washer fluid that I keep in the back of my Jeep during my lunch hour, and go to the driving range on Tuesday and Thursdays (the range is 10 min from my office). After I get off work, I go to the putting green at a public course that's on my way home on MWF, and then get on the treadmill for about an hour. Tuesdays and Thursdays, I go behind a warehouse close to my condo building and hit more wedges - usually till it gets dark.

All this work, and I STILL suck. Golf is a cruel sport.

I can drive the ball 250ish, drive a 2006 explorer, and am married

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I drive it 280, Drive a Ford Edge and I am married with 3 kids. Play 3-4 times per week and practice 2-3 times per week. I can shape the ball, it really is not that hard. If I could putt worth a damn might actually be a scratch or better golfer.

I'm fat, drunk and stupid and it's a great way to go through life. Contrary to what Dean Wormer says.

Seriously, I think most people's notion of how far they hit a club comes from either the once in a lifetime strike or estimates with no real data. I've hit drives that my buddies thought were 300+. When I measure them with my gps, they're only 260. I've seen some real 300+ drives and the ball goes a long long way.

~275 but I hit 2 or 3 iron more often than not, just for placement.

Love this discussion! EVERYONE thinks they hit it longer than they do, including me! Unfortunately, I received a SkyCaddie a couple years ago for Christmas, so my friends and I stay depressed...accurate to within 1 yard. It's funny how many holes we play INTO the wind on every 18.

Who really cares how far I hit my driver! Never took the SAT, but won the Health Award in 8th grade. Married far, far out of my league. The secret to happiness my friends: I know it!

I drive it 275, drive a 1993 Honda Accord, got a 1030 on the SAT, but I did marry my high-school sweetheart who was the Homecoming Queen.

Hey

Spring , you sound pretty average! laughs. Myself, I'm below average. Hmm....I drive it maybe 200 yards? I too drive an Accord, one of the newer ones with the fancy touchscreen Navigation though. I'm planning for the 2.5 kids I'll have one day. Oh my girlfriends gained a few pounds too...but meh....I like my women a little thicker. SATs?...I live in Canada we don't have them, but we have free health care :P

Yeah ive had some old men at my club that think there gonna put it on the green. Slows play down a LOT and just pisses me off!

I hit my driver about 180... though that's with about 60-75 yards of slice. (Do I get to add that?) My 3 wood carry varies from 22 to 220 yards.

Never took the SAT. Got a 30 on the ACT, but I have no idea what the hell that means.

Never married. Did front a regional band for about 15 years with all the perks that entails. Probably a big part of why I never married. Current serious relationship person vaguely resembles Band Camp Girl (With glasses... mmm... I like the glasses).

    • Day 2: August 12.  I did 25 balls of the ruler drill from LSW for putting.  24 of the 25 stayed on the ruler through 36" but some were smoother than others.  I suspect if the ruler (and goal) had been 48" far fewer would have stayed on.  I'm trying to go by sound, and not look, since when I attempt short putts, I don't want to look (although now I wonder if that's conventional wisdom that turns out to be wrong).
    • Day 17: did mirror work while watching TV. Working on wrist feels.
    • Day 315 - 2025-08-12 Got a little work in before Juniors showed up for one of their Summer Sessions.
    • I always knew it as high but never that distance was 90-95% of rating! That has always played to my advantage. I never have but I could totally vanity cap myself by playing **super** long courses that are otherwise super easy. There was one course like that in LA that I used to play that helped my cap like that. The back tees were close to 7k yards, but otherwise the course was incredibly easy. Wide open, misses almost always had a play at the green from the adjacent hole, flat greens, not challenging green complexes, etc. But it got a high rating because it was so long. So I could swing hard, spray and pray, and score well (relative to my handicap).
