He had a few errant shots, but all in all his shots from the tee and his iron play was not too bad. His putting, though, both yesterday and today was horrendous. Between both days, he gave away so many birdies I lost count.

What do you think is his problem? It almost looks like his putting stance and stroke has changed. If it hasn't, maybe it needs to because at this rate he will be lucky to stay in the top ten in FedEx standings after the playoffs.

Except last week. And two weeks ago when he went on a scouting trip to Hazeltine.

As amazing as his short game is, he has always been a lousy short putter. He just seems to pull them right past the hole.

imo - I've always believed his 'putting woes' have to do with his little 'forward press' before he putts. It's fine on his 'full shots', as this is a more athletic swing and can handle the forward press. I think when he putts, he doesn't always have the same forward press and struggles sometimes. This goes away when he's 'on', but when he's lost a bit of touch, I think that type of stroke is not good.

What do you think is his problem?

I don't know...the fact that his wife and mom have cancer?

I once read that "no one can snatch defeat from the jaws of sure victory as well as Hefty"
On his putting... Looks like he's had a bad couple of days. It happens to the best even when not dealing with the issues Phil is right now

I think you mean lefty

But everybody has bad days of putting also.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

If he could putt he might have a Masters win (missed a 4 foot eagle putt on 15) and a US Open ( a 3 putt and a bogey from 4 feet) win.

I love the guy but he misses too many short putts. He kind of reminds me of Langer.

He's thinking to much about his Wife, who is fighting breast cancer at the moment. He has to zone out the distractions and focus on making the easy putts. He needs to have fun out there. It seems like he's just not himself.
