My wife and I purchased a home last October, it was technically a foreclosure but the realtor who was listing it for the family ended up buying it, fixing it up a little and then selling it to me and my wife.

According to the records the home was purchased for $244,000 and we ended up making a purchase at $139,000 buying it at a pretty decent savings.

As I walk from room-to-room I cant help but notice some noticeable sized holes (fist and foot sized)....well, patched holes that are all about shoulder height or foot-height.

I cant help but think that the guy and his family was going through some tough times and left the writing...literally on the wall.

anyone have any comments? Anything like this you've seen before?

Yeah, I hear about this frequently when someone buys a foreclosed house directly. It isn't uncommon to find most of the house fixtures stripped - are the bathtubs and pipes intact?

Yes...everything checked out perfect on the home inspection. No vandalism or any real type of malice....other than the holes that used to be there.

A talented person can tape in some new drywall, mud it, and paint it and you'd never know it was there. I'm not that talented, unfortunately, but it is possible.

Its actually not that difficult, it takes patience and time, but drywall is not a difficult job. That being said, its best left to the pro's. You will spend an hour doing something they can do in 10 minutes. Compound that with 15 plus pieces of work, and what is a weekend project for you is probably a $300 job to some experienced professional.

We are going to be redoing my basement and bathroom next year. WHen we do the two together, I intend on hiring a drywaller to do all the drywall work. It just makes the most sense to let the pro's handle that kind of stuff.

In my bag:

some golf clubs

a few golf balls

a bag of tee's some already broken the rest soon to be

a snickers wrapper (if you have seen me play, you would know you are not going anywhere for a while)

and an empty bottle of water

I used to clean out and do maintainence on repo'd homes for a job. In three years at that job I saw lots and lots of things like holes in walls. And much worse. But yeah, that's pretty common.
