It may not sound like much to some of you fellow golfers but I shot a 93 a couple of days ago and it was good. I was striking the ball very well, still not far but straight where I aimed.

I was 9 of 18 GIR, and 11 of 18 fairways hit.

I had 3 holes I completely broke down on, one being a Par 3. I pulled a Harrington and posted a 7 with a nice plop in the water first.

I have really worked on my short game, but it's time to work harder on my putting. I couild have easily been in the 80's and mentally broke down.

Anyway, it felt good.

By the way, this was from the blue tee's.

9 out of 18 GIR is more than I hit a lot of times. CERTAINLY work on putting, especially ones from 10 feet and in...

Good job though man. It should only come down from here. Keep working hard.

I never wanted to be average. Even at 54 I want to win every time out. Even by myself I want to beat my last score. I'm cursed to be competitive. I know no one else is like that.

But lovin every minute..............

The average golfer doesn't brake 100...

Is that true? If so, it should stop the little guy sitting on my shoulder saying "everyone here is watching you, and they're all better than you" and putting me off :D

I hope you brake 100, because the speed limit is only 65.

Congrats on your round.

Hitting fairways and greens is the way to get it done.

What do you attribute your accuracy to?

Whatever it is...hang on to it. The putter will get hot soon enough....most prone club in the bag to "tension". I'm always, it seems, trying to relax over putts.....lightening my grip pressure helps.....deep breaths....etc.

Fickle game sometimes.

Well Dub. I was brought back to reality today. I played your home course and really blew up. Shotgun start and two different courses was strange. It is a very beautiful course and I can see a lot of work being done. There are some pretty tough holes. When you fade the ball the doglegs' left killed me. The island green also ate my lunch. Yes, I found the water. We were paired up with a gentleman from the philipines. He is a member.

Anyway, it was still a good day.

If you work on your putting, you could be breaking 80 in no time!

9 GIR should equal E or 1-2 under on those nine holes. Then I believe you should get up and down on at least on of the next nine holes. That would be an 80.

A quote from Kris
...is that college bball really isn't "lower tier". The better teams have their rosters filled with guys who could play in the NBA. hell, guys used to come straight from high school to the NBA. I really don't think there's much of a difference skill-wise between the two.

Putting is where it's at.

5 years ago I was stuck between 10 and 13 handicap. I switched to the Odyssey two ball belly putter and dropped to 8 by the end of the year. Now I hover between 6 and 9.

Good for you. Those are awesome stats. I had 5 fairways, 5 GIRs, a few blow up holes and scrambled for a 93 the other day.
I gotta work on my putting.....

ezmoney5150, are the two ball putters for real ? I tried one in the store the other day and it felt so balanced compared to my old blade.

I only wish I could get 9 GIR's. I shot a 79 today and only had 3. On the bright side, I'm getting really really good chipping with my 7 iron. Congrats on the round.

Glad you had a chance to play it. I really love the place and thougoughly enjoy all the members I've met. Our club manager, Bill Fumai, deserves nothing but high praise. He runs a tight ship and has one of those personalities that just snaps you out of your "post work trance" and puts you in a good mood right off. He also plays the course at least once a week and makes out punchlists for the course maintenance crew to address during those rounds.

I have to renew in October....I'll most definitely be staying. Glad you had fun.....sorry about the Island View nine....it's a tricky affair....starting off with two 90 degree dogleg lefts can unerve many...especially the first hole...if you don't bite off the corner you are left with a long uphill shot....mean way to start.

    • First off please forgive me if this is not a proper post or not in the proper location, still learning the ropes around here. Second, it's important that I mention I am very new to the game with only about 10 rounds of golf under my belt, most being 9 holes. Only this year have I started playing 18. That being said, I am hooked, love the game and am very eager to learn and improve. To give you an idea of my skill, the last 2 18 rounds I played were 110 and 105. Not great at all, however I am slowly improving as I learn. Had been having bad slicing issues with the driver and hybrids but after playing some more and hitting the range, I've been able to improve on that quite a bit and have been hitting more straight on average. Irons have always come easier to me as far as hitting straight for some reason. Wedges have needed a lot of improvement, but I practice chipping about 20-30 mins about 3-5 times a week and that's helped a lot. Today I went to the range and started to note down some distance data, mind you I am averaging the distances based off my best guess compared to the distance markers on the range. I do not currently own a range finder or tracker. From reading some similar posts I do understand that filling gaps is ideal, but I am having a some issues figuring out those gaps and understanding which clubs to keep and remove as some gaps are minimal between clubs. Below is an image of the chart I put together showing the clubs and average distances I've been hitting and power applied. For some reason I am hitting my hybrids around the same distances and I am not sure why. Wondering if one of them should be removed. I didn't notice a huge loft difference either. The irons I have are hand me downs from my grandfather and after playing with them a bit, I feel like they're just not giving me what could potentially be there. The feel is a bit hard/harsh and underwhelming if that makes sense and I can't seem to get decent distances from them. Wondering if I should be looking to invest in some more updated irons and if those should be muscle backs or cavity backs? My knowledge here is minimal. I have never played with modern fairway woods, only the classic clubs that are actually wood and much smaller than modern clubs. I recently removed the 4 and 5 woods from my bag as I was never using them and I don't hit them very well or very far. Wondering if I should look into some more modern fairway wood options? I appreciate any feedback or advice anyone is willing to give, please forgive my lack of knowledge. I am eager to learn! Thank you.
    • I would think that 3 in a row with the same players might get some behind the scenes examination from the SCGA if they were suspect.  Are there any clubs questioning the results?
    • What simple fact? A golf match is not a coin flip — there is a fact for you. I'm trying to help you, and you're throwing out what could easily be called sour grapes. Come with FACTS, not weak analogies. Then you've got nothing. Hopefully they've done a better job of making their case. 😛
    • It's pretty close. The odds of a 50/50 shot going your way 21 times are greater than 1 in a million!  I guess your point is, that simple fact is not enough to declare these guys dirty rotten sandbaggers. I disagree, but fair enough. I posted it here on the message board to get different perspectives, after all.  I probably won't be digging further into specific scores. I have no dog in this fight beyond a generalized contempt for sandbagging. With that said, it would not surprise if a lot of clubs shared my concern and were grousing about it to the SCGA.
    • I had an article on Cam Smith pop up along with this..... Current major eligibility list for all LIV Golf players Here's a look at which majors, if any, all LIV Golf players are eligible.
