I don't usually have anyone to play with and definitely no group of guys to compete with. The game is getting rather boring playing by myself or being paired with another twosome every weekend.

Just wondering if their are any kinds of tournaments for regular guys like myself? Or how do I find leagues to play in around my area? I'm in tampa, I've searched the web but came up short.

Just wanna get a little competition to make the game more interesting.

Thanks!

Jim

Orlando too far? They mention some others in FL here at Egolf. I played last year, I liked it (got too busy this year).

Most golf clubs have leagues you could join, or do a search for an amateur golf association. Many states have them, I'd bet Florida does.

Call the public courses in Tampa. Ask them if they have a men's league. League golf is absolutely "competition for a regular guy". It's mostly handicap-based games, and low net rounds to establish your 'league handicap'.

If you can't find anything, talk to your local pro. I'm sure that he would be able to help.

I'm sure it varies. The one I'm in is $30 to join the league, plus $6 dues on the day we play (every Tuesday weather permitting), plus $1 for the weekly skins game, plus green fees (if you're not a member). The games we play vary. We're divided into two flights according to handicap. You win money (cash) for skins and win clubhouse store credit for finishing "in the money" in the game.

I'm sure there are tournaments all the time down near you in Florida. Just because you can't win them doesn't mean you can't go in some of them.

Check the local courses, especially now during the summer months most courses usually have 9 hole leagues in the afternoon. If you are ever in the Miami area let me know and I'll be more than glad to point you in the right direction. If all else fails a low stakes skins game with the twosome you get paired with is always fun, best way to make frenemies!

Most of the leagues i've played in my area are handicapped (not a usga handi but one that they establish for their particular league/course) as to level the playing field and it seems to be pretty fair for the most part. My experience with the flighted tourneys is that the most competitive flights are the 10-15 because of the higher turnouts, the lower flights always seem to be the same group of 10-12 guys.

You might try looking for a Men's Club type of organization too. I've been playing in a Men's Club at a local public course for 21 years now, and I tend to find it more rewarding than the leagues I've participated in. We don't play every week. Instead sit down with the course staff in January to schedule a series of tournaments throughout the season. We generally have 15 tournaments, including team, 2-man and individual stroke play, one or 2 day weekend events. We also run several match play tournament brackets which run all season long with a certain date window for the competitors to arrange and play each bracket. We maintain official USGA handicaps, and we play all tournaments by the Rules of Golf. The club has a 250 member cap... we are at about 220 this year.
