Im pretty new to the game( been playing a few months ) i just got my swing speed checked today, im averaging low 90s. from what i the guy at the shop was telling me thats not bad for a noob. i bought weighted sleeves to put on my clubs for practice, any other tips for improving my swing speed.

In my attack bag im rocking....

Master a good technique. Solid fundamentals and a practiced technique will generate swing speed on their own. Seriously, with good technique half swings fly off the face. Swing speed isn't something you should be concerning yourself with if you're new to the game. In fact, I'd guess most of the speed you're generating is wasted as it isn't their at impact (likely decelerating into the ball) and you aren't hitting square shots on the sweet spot anyhow. So forcing more speed is probably the wrong path to travel right now for you.

Also, don't listen to guys at shops. They will tell you anything to make a sale. Save your money and buy lessons from a PGA Professional.

I second that suggestion. It natural comes and goes my friend.

thanks for the advice guys, actually i believe i am hitting the sweet spot or atleast close to it. my shots are usually pretty straight. they just lack the umph to make it out there. yea i know that the guys at the pro shops know what they are talking about but they are salesmen too lol

umph is a direct function of contact and technique, not so much swing speed. try making 3/4 swings and focusing on pure contact. i guarantee the ball goes further than youd think.

I agree with the above. I am actually working on getting the "bow" at impact. Part of my practice is taking half shots to get the feeling. These half shots go almost as far as my full shots because the swing mechanics are so much better....effortless power! I think if you get your swing mechanics down, your swing speed will be there and be there at the right times...not wasted.

Ever notice how crisp and far you hit a little shot when you are trying to chip out of the trees or something??

Swing speed is almost never the salient factor in improving from a high handicap to a medium handicap.

What I would suggest is that you know the exact distance you hit each club and write that down (distances at the range and on the course may vary).

Then ask yourself the question how often you accomplish those distances with straight accurate shots?
