Forgive what may be an obvious question. I have a Callaway x460 driver, and x 3 Wood, both with the stock Fujikura stiff flex shaft.

Lately, I cannot for the life of me hit these clubs straight. Ball starts straight, then turns into a huge slice. Work on the swing, try all the normal fixes, same result.

I've gone down to the 5wood off the tee, a Ping G10 with stiff UST V2 shaft. I have been hitting this very straight and long, nice trajectory. Tonight I again was hitting it well, so I dropped another ball and tried the 3wd. Same old story, huge slice right. Hit the 5wd, striped down the middle. Hit the 3wd, big slice right. So, assuming there's no swing variance causing this issue, seems it has to be a difference in clubs. I have a hard time believing that two quality Stiff shafts would act so differently, but I'm starting to lean that way.

I can't say I've had my swing speed accurately measured, I was hitting the 5wd 250ish with good swings today. I've hit drivers at Golf Galaxy and will hit a few around 105mph but the simulator is rarely calibrated, so I don't take it as gospel.

So, in a nutshell, I'm asking if it's possible that the shaft in the Callaway could be causing the slice to this extent. When I say slice, I mean 50yds right, landing halfway in the next fairway.

How much effect does a shaft have?

How much effect does the transmission in your automobile have?????

They are one in the same......connecting your power source to the task at hand. A good fit is a must. The wrong fit will yield crappy and disfunctional results.

And it starts,,,, The search for the perfect shaft / driver combo. Hide your wallet

JK Sounds like it could be the shaft, however don't automatically get the X-Flex, I'll tell you now it is too stiff. Some OEM's list Stiff although they are closer to Reg (appeals to the mocho man) Figure what you want: ball flight dispersion vs distance length weight feel cost and research and hit a lot of different combos good luck

I know I really don't need an xstiff.

I'm inclined to get a UST V2 75gm or so, in stiff, and change out the shaft in the 3wd and see if it has any effect, before going to a whole new club. I buy used clubs, but still cheaper to go this way.

You mean to tell me that $5 stock "Insert Brand Name Here" shaft doesnt perform well... I would have never guessed it.

Demo a couple drivers that bracket your current shaft. I may be a yokel, but I play stock shafts in all my clubs without issues.

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
