I've always been in love with Kapalua, especially the Plantation course. I always look forward to watching the Mercedes Championship on TV...probably because after 2 months of winter it's nice to see blue skies and sunshine - but the course itself is stunning on TV too.

And between Tiger Woods on Playstation and the old Links PC game, I've probably played the Plantation course hundreds of times (albeit virtually) -

All that being said, in a few days I will actually be there and I am unbelievably stoked -

If anyone has any "local" advice for me on playing the courses I will gladly take it - thanks and aloha!

Mere words cannot express the intense jealousy I (and probably many others here) are feeling right now. I played the Plantation course once and really enjoyed it - you'll have a blast!!!

Can you pick me up a white, XL "Mercedes Benz Championship" T-Shirt? It has the little Kapalua butterfly on the back at the top of the spine. I got blood on mine.

Mahalo in advance.

Enjoy your trip. Enjoy the golf.

They also have one of the finer places to eat in Maui at the Plantation (The Plantation House Restaurant).

I'm also going to be in Maui for my honeymoon in a couple weeks... Despite having just picked up the game should I make a point to play The Plantation or The Bay? I'm staying at the Ritz anyway so its discounted.

Would someone as new as myself find it enjoyable at all? Would my slow play just ruin some other guys day?

Advice?

I played a lot in Maui last September. I had no trouble playing at the Kapalua courses. Afternoon rounds are easy to get on - way less crowded. Ka'anapali Royal was more crowded than Kapalua Plantation. The Bay Course is much easier, and still very enjoyable, but has less ocean views.

WARNING THEY USUALLY AERATE THE GREENS AT THE PLANTATION COURSE DURING THE FIRST PART OF SEPTEMBER, but offer no price break.

    • First round at Quail Ridge: 47 + 47 = 94 *Note: It was 25+ mph winds with gust in the 35+ mph. It was also around 58 degrees. I felt like I was out in Oregon. The greens were very firm.  Driver was decent. It didn't cause me an issues.  Irons were the biggest issue. Just low point control was lacking. Mostly on the chunky side. Also, my irons were routinely 20-30 yards shorter than normal. Even on holes with a cross wind, the ball was just dying. We played an extra 9 holes after the first 18, and the wind died down by then. I stepped into a 9 iron, and it came up 15 yards short. I have no clue what is going on. I should not be hitting 9 irons 140 yards when I am hitting my driver 300 to 310 yards.  Warmup didn't give me much confidence. I just kept shanking every other iron shot. I didn't shank an iron during the round. I just felt all out of sorts today. Coordinate felt off.  yea, I have no idea if I am purposely slowing down my swing to feel my downswing piece. Again, I hit a decent 9 iron and lost 15 yards of carry. I hope this is just an off day.
    • Day 565 - 2026-04-19 Wanted to get home to do some spring cleaning type stuff, so I practiced for about seven or eight minutes and got my butt home. Just backswing stuff, mostly, with freezers and a little downswing feel. Liking the new big mirror I have.

    • Day 22: played 18. Shot okay - 80 - but long game was bad. Saved by some good putting and short game.
    • Well that's about the dumbest thing I've read today.
