Well, I just lost my job and I can't find ANYTHING out here! I have basically no connections, (the people I know don't have very good jobs)

Just wondering if anyone in Tampa knows of a job opening or can set me up with something either through yourself or a connection you may have.

Just though I'd put that out there. Im 26 years old, have a hardcore work ethic, and am very easy to get along with.

Thanks in advance!

Well, ive worked in the service industry my whole life. Co-owned one restaurant as well. Ive worked hotels, and restaurants...

Im not sure exactly what I want yet, but I'm open to anything that will take me above poverty level....

Im just looking for a career really... Restaurants were nice, good money, but when times got tough, I didn't get paid and when you own a restaurant, its your life... no time for anything else...

I want my 401k, 2 weeks off vacation, weekends off, etc etc....

Thanks Ufreefer! Hopefully you've got something for me!

Feel free to PM me as well if you want some more info... I really appreciate this!

Jim

No offense, but that attitude won't cut it today.

It's the other way around... it's about what you can give the employer. Good luck.

Concur. I'm an exec in the specialty retail and service industry. If a 26 year old comes to me with any attitude other than "I'm willing to work 24/7 and show you what I can do for you", he's not even going to get to sit down for an interview......

Whoa guys, I think youve taken this the complete wrong way, Ive worked 80 hours weeks, my work ethic is stronger quite possibly than anyone else Ive ever met...

I was simply saying that I'd like to work for a bigger company that offers 401k's , weekends off, etc, as opposed to the restaurant I owned which required 80 hours a week, plus overnights to repair equipment, paint, etc....

Thats all I was saying, is that I envy the guys that get vacations and retirement plans, etc...

I never got to experience that...

Why jump down my throat so damn quickly.? And why quote one sentence and take the rest out, which also takes it out of context?

I apologize.
My daughter (28) lives in Ybor. She dreamed of owning a restaurant or bakery. Throughout her college career she worked in the food service industry. It's a tough business that doesn't play by many rules. She finally got her degree in "Hospitality Management" and now has that corporate position you seek. Education separates the wheat from the chaff.
Just sayin'.

I may have misunderstood too. I didn't mean to pile on, but the bottom line is that in the service sector, anyone in an operations role is going to be working weekends, and likely nights at least until they reach a district or even regional level of multi-unit management.

Your experience is in the service sector. If you want to stay in the service sector, i.e. retail, hospitality, or restaurant, there are plenty of national players that would love to have you. There are job sites similar to career builder and hot jobs that are dedicated solely to the service industry and that might be a good place to start.....if for nothing else than to get an idea of what's available in the market. There are also recruiters that specialize, but in the current market, the number of employers that are willing to pay a recruiter is pretty limited........it's just too easy to source all the candidates that they need on their own, so while talking to a recruiter might be worthwhile, I certainly wouldn't leave that as my only option.

FWIW, with your experience, you might also want to look into the general management side of golf course/club management.

I apologize.

Hey man, no prob, I have a bachelors degree by the way, and your right education does separate the wheat from the chaff, but when your running your own show, education means nothing....

Now my resume is full of self ownership and co ownership and I think companies shy away from guys that have owned their own business... Different mind set than the average "employee" Thanks for your post though, David in FL, thanks for your thoughts, some interesting stuff to think about.

I don't mean to jump in but I was wondering something along the same lines. (new job) I currently work for the Government and I'm looking to make a change. My resume is filled with jobs in retail/sales including management experience along with a bachelors in communications with a minor in business. I'm highly motivated and looking to move south. I currently live in PA but work in NJ with a 45 minute to an hr commute everyday to a job I quite frankly can't stand. Any help would be greatly appreciated or even avenues to go to. I'm a go-getter and would gladly talk to whomever in order to get a foot in the door. Thanks,
-Paul G

Wow, that sounds great. "I can work 24/7 and my whole day is about what I can do for you......." With that attitude as a leader, I am sure you have plenty of turnover when times are good. Companies can get away with that expectation when times are tough, but the market always turns around..............

LOL, yea work/life balance.... important to most who are not "leaders"....

    • You can pre-order an R50 here for pretty rapid shipping (these are back-ordered almost everywhere): https://www.playbetter.com/products/garmin-approach-r50-golf-launch-monitor-simulator?ghref=2301%3A700794. This is an affiliate purchase, and I'm willing to kick back lifetime ad-free Supporter membership here on TST or a 90-minute GEARS session for the cost of a regular member lesson (about 1/3 the cost). Also, I'll record a video myself soon when I get an R50.

    • Day 209 (27 Nov 24) - Easy session with the LW - short pitches replicating greens side up and downs. Finished up with the 7i and hard foam balls - making 1/2 to 3/4 swings with deliberately slowed tempo…from varied lies.
    • Yes, this is the 2024 model. DSG ruined what Callaway perfected for most golfers. A darn good 3 piece golf ball. Now it's a 2 piece cheap ball. To me a 2 piece ball is fine and a 3 piece budget ball is better. I prefer a slightly harder ball, something in the 65-75 compression range that will perform similar to the old Gamer. The Titleist tru-feel is pretty good. I planned on giving Maxfli straightfli a try.
