I'm sometimes losing my grip at the top of the backswing, which I know now to be a cause of losing power, and all sorts of other things. Are there any other tips besides simply keeping the three fingers on the left hand stationary the whole way up and down?

Asked a buddy the same question while playing one day. I could tell I was loosening my grip before transition.

He suggested I stick a tee between my club grip and my left hand....take a practice swing and focus on holding the tee in place. Remove the tee, address the ball and pull the trigger.

It helped get the right feel.

Good luck.

Try tightening up you grip pressure. Many reputadable players and instructors dont buy into to the "hold the club like a baby bird" idea. Steve Elkington noted about his grip pressure that he felt like "...3 men couldnt pull the club from my hands...". I have read similar remarks from Jesper Parnavik.

I used to have this problem when I played as a teen. I took an extended break from the game (I lost the thrill and money in college was tight). After getting back into the game, I read Hogan's 5 fundamentals (went from interlocking to overlap) and very much agree with DBeane.

I like tighter than normally prescribed grip pressure, but it's only in the last 3 fingers of the left hand and the middle two of the right. The trigger fingers and thumbs are there for the ride and not to influence the swing. I found I can still release the club pretty well by squeezing the hell out of the club with the last three fingers of the left hand, but it does promote a fade from an inside approach.
