I am looking for a good teaching pro in Orange County, CA. I am trying to make the breakthrough from hacker to golfer, which for me is the ability to frequently break 90. I have had several rounds lately in the low 90's, but also shoot around 100. I have come to believe that I have one or more fundamental swing faults that lead to the inconsistency that causes my frequent "blow-ups" on one or two holes per 9. I need someone who doesn't just practice "band-aid" instruction, but rather identifies these faults and helps me change them permanently.

I am 42, and in good physical condtion, and would like to make the changes necessary to enjoy golf for the rest of my life. I don't have aspirations to be a single digit handicap, but rather a solid, competent golfer.

If anyone has had a good experience with an instructor in Orange County, expecially South OC, I would love to hear about it. TIA.

A friend of mine takes lessons at Saddleback College. If the location is convenient for you (BTW, they have an awesome driving range - if you haven't been there... go. Especially north end on weekends), let me know and I'll ask him who his teacher is.

I don't know of anyone specifically but you have options. One is to go to your local GC and ask around to see which pro at each course would best fit with your personality. The second it to follow this link and take a shot in the dark. http://www.pga.com/profinder/

    • Day 121: did a bit of mirror work with my driver. Working on shortening the backswing.
    • Day 305 - Grip and backswing work. Full swings were bothering the hip a bit.
    • Day 56 - 2024-11-15 Light day. Lots of catch-up work. Checked the grip to make sure I wasn't compensating there, and did a little backswing work.
    • Day 197 (15 Nov 24) - Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management.  Solid round of 83 (41/42) - 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.
    • Have been on a mid to low 80’s roll of late - today was no different with an 83 (41 front / 42 back).   Played in the Friday men’s group outing - blustery conditions in play (wind gusting 10-20; spotty pop up misting rain; temps in the mid 50’s), so it was a good day to work on course management, delivering 7 GIR, total 32 putts - included 10 pars (3 being up and downs), a dbl and triple bogie.  Local course starting to get that winter feel - wet areas wetter, thin grass thinner, greens  trickier.
