Today I played military golf...you know left, left, left, right, left. Club felt akward in my hand, like it was some sort of medieval device. Pretty disgusted with myself... especially considering how well I played just a few weeks ago.

Anyways, for guys that have hit a rough patch, do you think playing through it or taking a break is best?

Oh well, at least it was still relatively fun.

I definitely wouldn't be taking a break. To be honest I would be at the driving range until I worked the kinks out of my swing. As with most kinks in a swing your head is usually to blame. It is really easy to start thinking too much in the middle of your swing when you should be focusing on the ball. Breaking down your swing should be reserved for the range and if done right and often enough you will develope the muscle memory and your swing will be like second nature. Just my .02 ;)

Same thing happened to me on my last round. Played prettty good the front 9 (40 i think) then the wheels came off on the back nine. Everything was dead right and I didnt have a clue how to fix it. Sometimes it just goes that way. But, I made a birdie on 18 so now I cant wait to get back. Thats golf!

Welcome to the club every single golfer is a member of. Taking a break can help you distance yourself from it. Trying to fix something can easily turn into trying too much and disastrous results. Just take it easy, play casual, don't worry about your score and take one shot at the time. When things go wrong, it is very easy to start using more muscles and trying to hit harder. Slow everything down and get a good rhythm.

Take a club extra on every shot and make a smooth swing.

when i hit a rough patch i usually take a few days off from the course(i play everyday). in those few days off i catch up on some much needed rest and hit balls at the driving range. the only place to work kinks in your swing out is there, not on the course because its a different mindset and you won't be as frustrated. plus, if u hit a bad shot u have the opportunity to try and correct it instead of getting a bad swing thought in mind like you might on the course.

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.  
    • Day 123 12-13 Rotation and getting to lead side work. Recorded face on. Hit a few foam balls but did plenty of rehearsals today.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
