hello!!! i need help. i recently started to take golf seriously.

now to the problem: ive been told many times to keep my head still during the golf swing. over time, that developed into a sway/reverse pivot where my head goes toward the target on the backswing and away from it on the forward swing. help me please!! i need help learning how to stop this reverse pivot, shifting weight properly, and coiling correctly.

thanks for your time!!!!

Find a GOOD teaching pro. Interview them first to make sure that the way they teach matches the way you learn. Then take some lessons and practice what they teach you.

A quick drill to feel the kinematics of the coil…

Take two clubs out of your bag.

Take your stance and place one club at the instep of your right foot with the grip far enough away from the front of your foot so you can see some metal.

Take the other club and place it across the front of your squared shoulders (arms crossed so that your right hand is pressing the club against the left anterior deltoid and vice versa).

Turn your shoulders (i.e., mimic the backswing without your arms) so that the club pressed against your shoulders is in line (by the line of sight) to the club at your right foot.

You should feel the weight transfer to your right side.

Stand on one leg and hit balls until
it's uncomfortable. Place both legs
now on the ground and see how
easier it becomes. Hope this helps.

Stand on one leg and hit balls until

I wonder if you pick up any bad habits by swinging on one leg until its uncomfortable (meaning you are taking many swings)? Sounds like you could be making bad movements while 'standing on one leg' in order to 'feel' something from the other leg!.?

Or am I missing something?

    • Day 33 (13 Dec 25) - Worked on weight shift and resetting the left heel during downswing (after listening to a discussion on Golf School this morning on PGA Tour Radio).  It centered on how Jack Nicklaus lifted his lead heel and how long driver champs do as well.  Taking cues from that discussion, worked an exaggerated feel of the left heel working doing some swing drill in the backyard using the 7i.  Wrapped up the session by hitting a few low bump and run shots in the backyard - keeping the process slow and exaggerated.

    • It may not have been block practice, though, is one of the main points here. You may have been serving and from the same place, but you were likely trying to do slightly different things. It seems that would only be blocked practice if you were trying to hit the same exact ball hit to you to the same exact place in the far court. I'm not sure that's as random as if the ball that you're given to hit is at different places, too, but again…
