I have been noticing some gaps in my setup (especially after playing the Mid-am on a stretched out course) and it has got me thinking about changing my setup completely.

Currently I have the following:
-Titleist 909D3
-Nike Ignite 3w
-MP32 3-PW
-Cleveland 52*, 56*, 60*

I am thinking of going with the following:
-Same driver
-Titleist 3w (when I get a new 3w)
-Titleist 17* hybrid to fill the gap between my 3i and 3w
-Titleist hybrids to replace the 3i and 4i (I think I can probably get more consistent distances out of these.)
-Titleist 54*, 60* wedges instead of the 3 wedge setup I had.

When it is time for new irons, I will probably go with Titleist as well....as you can see, I have become sold on Titleist. I have hit a few of their clubs throughout the year, and they just have an amazing feel to me.

What do you guys think of this? After playing in the tournament, it really showed me the gaps in my clubs and the need to to get rid of a wedge.

I agree. Hit what you feel is best and make sure your gaps are covered and you should be good to go. I also agree with keeping the MP-32's until they have served their time and you need new irons vs getting a whole Titleist setup immediately.

Oh yeah, I have been using the MP-32s for probably 5 years now. They are getting close...well, a few of them are getting close. The lower irons are getting there.

Looks like it should be a great setup, but which Titleist 3W and hybrids are you going to go with? Also just curious if you'll be comfortable with the gap between your PW and 54° wedge once you move to that setup. Are you planning on going a degree or two weak on your PW to make up a little bit of that gap? The reason I'm asking so many questions is because I'm thinking about dropping my 52° as well, but I havent made a final decision yet.

As a solid 10 hdcper, let me tell you what you should play to keep up with me . . . hickory shafted irons (don't forget the rut iron, because you gotta play it where it lies), Northwestern Pewter "Bullseye" putter with original grip, Spalding Kro Flite woods (not the persimmon ones from the 40s - I mean the plastic ones from the 70s), "Pro Shop" balls (the ones with a visible seam and that delightful thud). See you on the course (your suggested setup sounds perfect if you can dial down a PW to fill the gap).

As far as the the 3w goes, I will probably go with the F3 because I already hit the ball high enough as it is. I don't know for sure which shafts but I got the VooDoo in my driver.

The gap will depend on what irons I go with I guess. Right now my PW is a 48* but if I went with the AP2s it would be 47*. The reason I thought about the wedges is I have gotten to where my 56* is going right around 100 yards on a smooth swing. My 52* only goes about 110-115. I figure if I stepped up to a 54* and hit it like I do my 56* then it would cover the distance that I hit my 52*....if that makes sense. And I love my 60* so I will always have one of those. This isn't set in stone just yet...I will have to play with different combos to get what I am looking for. I am just throwing around ideas at the moment. Another thing too is my swing changes may straighten out the 52* and fix the distance issue.

Thanks for the info, it definitely makes sense to me. You said you're throwing ideas around right now. What other options have you thought of? I really dont think you'd go wrong with what you said in your original post, but again, I'm curious :)

    • Day 446 - 2025-12-20 Woke up early and got some swings in before teaching putting all day. Looking forward to doing the same tomorrow.
    • It's miles better, though.
    • Went up to Erie for a lesson. I still need to work on how I shift my weight into my right leg and turn into the right leg. I extend it too much and externally rotate it too much. That all causes me to over rotate the hips and cause weight shift issues in the downswing. I need to feel like my right leg gains flex (it doesn’t), and my knee cap faces forward. The right hip sinks back and right. I need a need a ton more internal rotation. I still have some right elbow issues in the backswing. The path is better, but too much right elbow bend. I need to maintain width in the right elbow and let my right shoulder retract more, let’s say at A3, which helps keep that right arm extended.
    • Day 130 12-20 Today was just swinging what i had and go from there. Did focus on getting to lead side. Recorded swings for lesson  and hit real balls.
