Hey,

First off I would just like to say that I have recently joined the board and have really enjoyed it.

That being said, I am looking to upgrade to my first set of blades. For the past few years I have been using a set of Titleist 990 DCI with DG S300 shafts, and they have been great. I have gotten a little tired of them, and I would like to get to a blade to try to fine tune my ball striking. I have been doing some looking on my own and the Nike VR blades look very appealing, also the Titleist ZM's, Mizuno MP-32's, and Titleist 695mb. Does anyone have any experience with any of these? Also, does anyone else have any recommendations? I am open to any suggestions, new or used.

Thanks!

i would suggest you wait a month and hit the nex titleist 710 MB. if you really like the ZM you could probably buy those for a cheaper price than normal since the new model (710 MB) is coming out. You could also try the Taylormade RAC MB. I think the Nike irons are a nice option but you can also find Mizuno irons (the new MP 68 look great) which always have to be considered. If money is not a problem for you, you could try the Callaway prototypes (they cost about 1300 dollars), the Cobra MB Forged and the Wilson Staff Fg59. There are so many blades you can try, you just need to find the right one for you.

If you are looking for a great club at little cost look at the Macgregor MT Pro M irons. You can get a set from the bay for less than $300 shipped.

Hey,

Golfsmith had initially discontinued the Snake Eyes 675B, but I guess that are replenishing their stock due to demand. It's a pretty sharp club and you can get the whole set for about $500. Here's the link to the iron's description:

http://www.golfsmith.com/products/CC...5B_Forged_Iron . I plan on getting the set when they come in (Jan 2010 is when they're expecting them). I think most irons are available, so you can try them out until the others are replenished.
Cheers!

Can you tell us about the MP-68s? How do they compare to other MPs? I play MP-14s and am looking to upgrade as the weaker lofts on the 14s accentuate my already insanely high ball flight. The MP-68s are stronger by two to three degrees per club and I think have a slightly higher COG.

Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I tried the 68s and they are absolubtely incredible! They feel like butter when you hit them flush. They feel better than the 67s. They are also very workable. If you want something a bit more forgiving you could try the 58s too. They are slightly less workable than the 68s and felt just a hair less soft. They are better IMO than their mp predacessors. I would look at a set of 58s/68s combo sets. If i can be of any more help let me know.

I have nothing bad to say about the MP-32s. Gorgeous irons, great feel/workability, and solid performers.

MP32's and Nickent Arc Blades would get my vote. Both are definately worth consideration.

Hey,

I actually just got my Victory Reds in this past Friday. I didn't get the full set of blades, instead I went with a combo set of blades, split cavities, and full cavities. Though I've only been able to hit them twice because of bad weather, I couldnt be any happier with them. I thought the blades felt great at impact, and they set up very nicely for me. I don't think you'd go wrong with any of them though. All 4 sets you mentioned are gorgeous IMO. You've got a tough decision on your hands. Do you have a shop nearby where you can hit all 4 side by side?? If price wasn't an issue at all, that's what I'd do.

Thanks for all the replies (and for the marketplace tip Bruce). I think mentally I am really split between the Nike's and the Titleist. Generally these are my two favorite clubs. I have hit the Titliests and they are great, but for some reason I can't get the VR's out of my head.

thanks for all the help!

my vote goes to titliest 690.mb and nike forged blades not the v.r but the 08's ive tried many blades and these two are imo the two best

    • I think part of it is there hasn't been enough conclusive studies specific to golf regarding block studies. Maybe the full swing, you can't study it because it is too complicated and to some degree it will fall into variable or random.
    • Going one step stiffer in the golf shaft, of the same make and model will have minor impact on the launch conditions. It can matter, it is a way to dial in some launch conditions if you are a few hundred RPM off or the angle isn't there. Same with moving weights around. A clubhead weights 200-220 grams. You are shifting a fraction of that to move the CG slightly. It can matter, again its more about fine tuning. As for grip size, this is more personal preference. Grip size doesn't have any impact on the swing out of personal preference.  You are going to spend hundreds of dollars for fine tuning. Which if you want, go for it. I am not sure what your level of play is, or what your goals in golf are.  In the end, the golf swing matters more than the equipment. If you want to go to that level of detail, go find a good golf club fitter. ChatGPT is going to surface scan reddit, golfwrx, and other popular websites for the answers. Basically, it is all opinionated gibberish at this point.

    • Well the first advice I would give is to look at your swing. If you are swing out to in, it may be difficult to fix your misses with club adjustments. They would only be a bandaid. I use midsize grips because I have long fingers and I feel I have more control with them. I also have tinkered with shaft length and swing weight. But I know when I miss it’s because my swing was off.
