I've only been watching for about an hour and twice some idiot has yelled out something during someone's shot. I know there's "national/international pride" at stake but that sort of behaviour has no place on a golf course. I hope the people who did it get banned from Tour events for a long time.

I don't really like how the crowd is cheering after bad shot's by the International Team. It just goes against the sport. I think it's very disrespectful.

The most obnoxious display of fan behavior was at the 99 Ryder Cup. But quite frankly I am not surprised at all with the fans cheering after a bad shot. I totally expected it. This isn't an Anti American statement, just that emotions are high and goodness knows Californians needs something to cheer about.

On the starting day, while one of the guys was preparing to putt, a cell phone went off - 4 times in a row.......

Stuff like this is really unnecessary. There is always a "little cheer" for the guest team when they hit a bad shot, and i guess as a guest player you are expecting that, but anything beyond that imo is very bad sportsmanship.

There really have been some regrettable moments by the patrons. I was watching when Zach was taking a final practice stroke...just prior to stepping forward and pulling the trigger.....some arse yells out "Go in the hole".

I hate this expression. Folks that yell this out are idiots and make our patrons seem like golf-ignorant mobs.

Cheering and clapping...wonderful when it's appropriate....yelling out stupid comments should get you kicked out of the venue right then and there.

I couldn't believe it when I heard it. I loved the crowd reaction though. The shame and embarrassment of yelling something so stupid

at the wrong time alone would have been enough for me to slink away into the shadows. I agree with you, anyone that yells "get in the hole" should be removed.

I thought it was fine until someone (I think it was someone from the International team) pushed it way right into a bunker, and I heard someone from the crowd yell "YOU SUCK."

"get in the hole!" doesn't bother me. It's halarious. But, something like a blatant "YOU SUCK" is just way uncalled for.

Well, I have read the state is broke, I have family living there and have enjoyed many a good vacation in Palm Springs.

I was there on Friday, and 99.9999% of the crowd was not only respectful, at times I thought they were underenthusiastic. Folks were extremely knowledgeable of the game, and everyone was really nice.

Pity it only takes 0.0001% to screw everything up and make the crowd look like goofs.

Regarding cell phones, btw, they weren't even allowed into the event during practice rounds, much less on tourney days. Of course, a few did sneak them in, but again, the rare exception.

And regarding those who scream out like that just to try and screw up the players, I agree -- this is not the sport for that type of behaviour. Immediate mandatory expulsion, yep.

Regarding the big incident with the cell phone going off again and again. Tiger indicated in the press conference that it actually was a marshall's phone that was going off (and off).

There was no surprise except this 18 year old from Japan. He is aggressive yet calm, got the power yet can putt. Dangerous combinations.
