Every few weeks I go thru a cycle of the shanks and the ball marks move from the center to the heel to the hosel.

What causes this?

Many things can cause this. Are you keeping your head in place? Or are you shifting forward? Reaching for the ball?

I find if I am trying to adjust my address to prevent a slice I can end up hitting at or near the hosel. Forcing an inside out swing is tough, could that be it?

Definitely shifting forward and don't know how to stop.

I do focus on keeping my head as still as possible.

Bottom line is I do not have a consistent swing right now.

There are many possible reasons for hosel rockets. From My personal experience it has to do with tension in your golf swing. If you relax, take a deep breath and attempt to swing without any tension at all, you should be able to let the club release properly and therefore get rid of the problem all together.

My hosel rockets were a result of turning my hips way to much to start the downswing. At impact, my right foot was well off the ground and right hip turned towards the ball. (Right handed swing.) There was very little room for my arms to get back to impact and the only path to even be able to make contact was over the top / sh@nk.

My instructor now has me focusing on keeping the lower body (hips to the ground) quiet all the way from the start of the swing, to past impact. Both feet on the ground at all times (no Bobby Jones flying left knee) and the right foot juuuust starting to come off the ground at impact.

Arriving at impact too much from the inside. If you shift your weight too far forward as you reach impact this'll make it more likely too.
