Price to pay

For lessons that is.... I am starting with a new instructor this week $100 for an hour... He seems like he will be a great instructor, and a former European and regular pga player. Knows what it takes to play at that level. But its quite a bit more than I have paid in the past... Worth it? I guess I will sort of answer that for myself after the lesson but just seeing y'alls input.

Will you have video analysis on your swing?
If so it's not too bad.

But still very expensive.

Over here in ireland my instructor(played on tour for awhile) does a great job and only costs 40 euro (60 dollars)

Its at wildcat with matt swanson's golf school. He is one of his senior instructors. They have a whole slue of gadgets at their disposal include video swing analysis, and more.

I will let y'all know after my lesson on tuesday how it all goes.

Chances are if he has the credentials you mentioned then it will be worth it. When I changed instructors to a more expensive but very talented one it took my game to a whole new level. The right instructor could mean amazing improvements in your game.

That was sort of my thoughts as well... I just hope it will pay off... Fingers crossed, Hopefully with his instruction and my hard work I will finally get to the level I want

for me finding an instructor is like finding a good barber. you need someone who you can communicate with. There are good instructors at all levels, its about finding the one who works with you.

I'm 39 and been playing since April this year. Have my 1st lesson lined up for $50 or I could go $140 for 4?

If you are looking to take your full game, not just your swing, but your full game to the next level then, yes, worth it. European and PGA players know how to play the game. However, I cannot speak to how he teaches the swing. Short-fused temperament or patient? That's the unknown part of the equation.

Is 100 bucks worth it? Depends...

I have dealt with people that had PGA after their name who were idiots. Instructors can help get you pointed in the right direction, however much of your improvement will be your own work and research.

Make sure the instructor is competent. Who have they worked with? Are they a 1 trick pony (i.e. stack and tilt, 1 plane, 2 plane, 8 step, natural golf, Homer Kelley, etc...) or do they build swings based individual factors such as age, body type, available practice time, health, etc...?

I would talk with the guy first before I went dropping a c-note on his "expert" advice.

Well I did it, went and had the lesson. Let me tell you, he was good! We seemed to work really well together which is important.

We did the viedo work, got me on a better plane, set me up with some drills and next week we are going to set up our total plan of attack.

This lesson was 100x better than any I have had in the past and totally work the extra money. So to anwner the question, yes sometimes the price to pay is worth it.

If you're just starting out, price and fun are the major factors. If you're trying to go under 5 handicap, your enthusiasm, the enjoyability of the lessons and how well you understand what he's saying. Nobody explains a chip the same, some say "wsssjk", some say "chip" and some say "tick". You have to get a teacher you identify with.

That's about the going rate for the better instructors in my area. Regardless of his background, he has to be a good teacher. Sounds like he is.
