In the beginning, I had an outside-in swing with an open club face. This produced a huge, banana-ball slice. With lots of hard work at the range, I managed to get my clubface closed and even hit some hooks. My 7iron distance was approaching 150 yards (on a good poke) although I still saw evidence of left to right movement on every shot (short irons just barely . . long irons moreso).

Then I got a golf simulator to practice with (p3proswing) and it let me know that I was still swinging outside in. 100% of the time. And a lot - I'm talking 10% degrees or more.

Now I have this corrected and am swinging slightly inside-out most of the time. Even when I mess up and swing outside-in, it's only 3-5%. However, my clubface went from square to super open! Like 10 degrees or more. It seems that, for some mental reason, I am holding off the release when I swing inside-out. The more inside-out I swing, the more open my clubface seems to be at impact.

Any drills to help me overcome this? It seems like I need to re-understand what releasing the club face is. In the past I understood it as the sensation of allowing the club to turn over but now it seems that it's not happening like I want it to.

What can I do to get back on track? All my iron shots are high and short now. My 7iron distance dropped back down to 110-120. My long irons are slicing big-time.

take a golf stance... let both arms hang relaxed, palms facing each other. no need for a club.

now use the body rotation to toss the arms back. when the arms reach parallel to the ground, you should feel like shaking hands with a person to your right.

now, start the downswing with the left hip, toss the 2 arms forward. when they pass the ball position, they should be square. when they reach parallel to the ground, you should feel like shaking hands with a person to your left.

your goal should be tossing them high (imagine the PGA logo).

if you finish high, you will swing from the inside, guaranteed. If your hands and arms are relaxed, you will have the hand-shake positions happen naturally without you trying.

now go repeat the samething, but this time holding a club with light grip pressure, so light that it can almost fly out of your hands when you reach the downswing handshake position.

There you have it, a perfect golf swing.
